Hi everyone! I am just now getting into choosing a setting for my e-ring. I''m completely new to all this and have never really shopped for diamonds or jewelry before. I''ve been reading PS for the last week or so and looking all over the internet to get an idea of settings that I prefer.

My BF''s family has several diamonds that they have offered for us to use. Unfortunately I don''t have exact specifics (yet! which is driving me crazy!) but I believe that we could use either a ~1 ct. round or a ~1 ct. emerald cut.

I''m fairly sure I know how I would want to set the round if we use that. I want the center stone to be the main focus, with smaller prong-set diamonds on the band. From trying on different settings, I thought 2.5mm was the best width on my finger. I tried on an A. Jaffe setting that was on sale at a local B&M store here and thought it was perfect. 2.5mm with 10 prong-set diamonds (I think they were 2 pointers). The only problem was that it has a Euroshank, which the jeweler said is difficult to resize. It could be done, but it would have to be taken down about one full size. Any suggestions on settings like this? Pictures are also fantastic!

In terms of the emerald cut diamond, I really don''t know what I would do yet. Probably a similar setting, but I don''t know if a prong-set diamond setting would be too much of a contrast with the emerald cut stone.

I''m sorry if I don''t have all the lingo down quite yet, but generally when I get interested in something, I read and read and read about it until I''m an expert. So I''m sure I''ll get there eventually.

I''m looking forward to talking with you all!

Okay guys, I started looking around. I''m not sure if this is the exact setting or not, but I think this is the one I tried on in the store. I know it helps to see a picture. So suggestions for settings like this one?

I''m not sure how it would look if you resized the ring you tried on at the store. If you''re worried the band won''t turn out that great, you could consider buying the band through one of the retailers usually sought out by PSers, as they make them according to the size you request (instead of resizing a stock they already have in place).

I quickly checked out Brian Gavin''s pave rings, and thought you might like this one:
Truth Solitaire

I''m personally in love with Mark Morrell''s Petite Torchiere (that''s what I''ll hopefully be getting). If you like diamonds down the side, the Fancy Torchiere is also gorgeous, but it''s a six prong rather than four (and I think that might be what you liked):

Good luck with your search - it''s pretty exciting! :)

Those are all lovely! I especially love the BGD Truth Solitaire. I think I want 4 prongs, but I''m still not totally sold on that.

About the one in the store... I tried it on and my BF and I were both instantly in love with it. And that''s amazing in itself because we haven''t always liked the same types of settings. This particular store is no longer going to carry A. Jaffe, so all of their settings are on sale. They''re offered it to us for 65% off, which put it into our price range. BF is the kind of person who loves to get a deal, so he''s kind of sold on it.

I''d actually never considered the Euroshank before, and I wonder if it would bug me. They said it could probably be resized, since it needs to come down just one size. I just don''t know if a purchase this important should be made impulsively because the setting is on sale. I also don''t know how good of a deal it is...they said the setting would be about $1000 on sale. We''ll probably shop around for different settings, and if that''s still the one we like, we''ll see if they still have it.

Thanks! I really love the setting you''ve picked out, too. I just love the look of the solitaire with diamond wedding band.
