We finally found a diamond that makes my GF happy (1.15 H VS1 OEC) so now am am starting the setting design. She picked the stone and I am designing the setting with some input about what she likes.
I want a reverse tapered style setting to highlight the center stone and am thinking of using purple sapphire pears with the points in as side stones and possible a couple small diamonds outside the sapphires to create a pave half shank. I want a fairly delicate look and with 2mm or so sidestone diameter as the center measures a little over 6.5mm. I have not seen any rings with pears in this orientation so I wanted to check if I am missing an obvious problem. The jeweler thinks it will be fine.
I also want to use a 6-prong head for safety and a rounder stone appearance, it sounds like have EW prongs is safer, and I like that look in a solitaire but I don't know how it will look with the reverse taper ending in a prong, does anyone have pictures of something like that? The side view will be a trellis/filigree type approach which would work well with only 2 side prongs and continue the delicate theme.
I would love to see more pictures using elements like these to help my design as well as hear any potential concerns.
thanks
