setting oec

I'm setting my 7mm oec and having great difficulty deciding. I love the two-tone look. I could do the heart setting with a white head and yellow shank. But I don't know that the white crown would be that noticeable. Would it just look like a yellow gold ring? I could also do the reverse, yellow crown and white shank. The diamond is k at the lowest looking quite white.
I also like the james allen ring. It's just one color.
Any opinions? I also must decide on a band at some point. I could do a two-tone band, maybe.

Are you aiming to add more color to your diamond or less?

If you do a WG head it will make your diamond look whiter. If you do the opposite and have a yellow or rose gold head/ basket it will probably bring out a bit more color in your diamond. have you seen Haven's gorgeous setting for her OMB? Her's is RG with a PLAT basket for her M colored diamond I believe.

Did you ask Adam his opinion on doing the heart ring in two tone? I will say he has mentioned to me several times that it is a very delicate setting in person. Here is a picture of hippi pixi's antique ring that he made the cast from:



I am not sure I would like this ring in two tone though. If you really like the two tone look could you do the ring in platinum and two eternity bands? Like this...

Incidentally, that ring (InnaR's blue unicorn) has circles as a pattern so you can see if you like the look. I considered circles and drew up a picture where the prongs were more evenly distributed instead of sets of 3. I will see if I can find it for you.

Okay...I found it. See if you like circles. This drawing has eight prongs....the one you have pictured above has 6. The band in the middle is supposed to have milgrain similar to the JbEG Julia which I attached a link to. I was really just playing around but maybe it will give you an idea. Oh and by the way Adam said he would make really nice delicate pointy prongs...NOT the fishhooks I drew.

I'd do all white metal on the e-ring and get a colored gold band or something. I just don't usually see those settings in two-tone and I am not sure I'd like it in an antique style setting. I like the OWD setting about 1000 times more for an OEC than the JA one.

Have you looked at Beverley K?

The OEC will pick up the colour of the basket so if you go white, it'll stay white. Yellow and rose will play up the lower colour. Although I like 2 toned settings, the design of yours isn't conductive for one. It would look better as a single metal.

I originally wanted a white gold setting with just the hearts, or preferably another shape, in yellow. Adam said that would mean making two rings and putting them together. I'm not really into the added expense. If I were setting a whopper like V's, that would be different.
I've thought of two bands. The example looks great.
Instead of hearts, I've also thought of arches.
DS, what is it you don't like about the JA ring? JA also has one with arches.
Decisions, decisions.

I actually think this setting could work well in two-tone: the white crown would definitely show, and you could tie it together by making the circles that support the shoulders white, too. If you want the stone to look white-ish, add me to the chorus suggesting the head definitely be white, too. I haven't seen anybody perform a controlled study with diamonds (for one thing, hard to guarantee that all the stones are exactly the same shade of "K" or whatever ... for another, hard to guarantee identical cut ... etc., etc.), but I have seen some very dedicated people on other board try with other white stones and identical settings, and it is AMAZING how much color variation you will get. They really do pick up on those minute reflections from the inside of the head quite remarkably.
