Hey everyone!

Well, after a lot of time online (with plenty of it at this forum) I think I finally decided on a beautiful diamond for my future wife (gosh-that's the first time I've ever typed that - exciting!!). I was excited about the new Jubilee (to capture the look of square but the sparkle of a round) but Jonathon just didn't have much in my size and color range

I guess I'll just have to wait for another excuse to by her more diamonds!

Anyway, I don't have the cert in front of me but here are the main specs:

Radiant
1.71 ct J SI1
Table %: 66%
Depth %: (can't remember - will post in a bit)
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good

This little radiant that could seems to sparkle and shine more than any other princess or radiant I looked at, so I'm going with it.

My main question is: what style of a setting do I put this lovely radiant in? My girlfriend could best be described as "fun, trendy, and hip," but she's definitely not "grunge/alternative" or "modern / contemporary" either - SO - I don't want anything boring or "typical" but half-bezels and the like are way too modern looking. Is there a happy medium? I'm thinking maybe a simple knife edge might jazz it up enough but really I'm just clueless. Oh, and for now, it will be set in white gold with no other stones.

Please help!! I need ideas!! I only have a few more weeks before E-day!!

That's no small stone, so I would set it farely low and into a simple setting - as you say

Unless a well-done basket setting comes your way (such as THIS), how about those crossed prongs (like THIS) ? Either can have a knife edge band if needs be.

Most settings have a "bridge" between the prongs, and those that do not have it are sometimes considered more "modern"... The "U-prong" by Whiteflash is one, and you can find a couple of just a bit out of the ordinary, elegant models on THIS SITE that Leonid mentioned.

For some reason, one model by Ritani(LINK) caught my attention for being a non-absurd two-tone.

There must be a few thousand options out there... but still hope this helps

Hi-I can't get the picture of my radiant to come up so here is the link!

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/need-jeweler-in-san-jose-to-make-wed-band-for-my-ering.16484/

its on the show me the ring under "i need a jeweler in san jose blah, blah, blah"

but i would describe myself "fun, trendy,& hip" so maybe you'll like it or even better maybe she'll love it!! i get tons of compliments on it!

oooohhh.... I do like that setting! Very nice. How would I describe it to someone over the phone (it is getting set out of state). The band looks rather flat and polished on the top; how would you describe the prongs?

Also, what did you end up going with for the wedding band next to it?

Also, if the L:W ratio is about 1.048 (I think the dimensions are like 6.92 x 6.60) do most people set it with the longer part running parrallel (the long way) with the finger, or perpendicular?

Thanks so much!!! um i just call it a flat band not rounded at all but sometimes its called a pipecut We set vertical as opposed to horizontal or east to west because i have short fingers so we thought it would look better! haha but i have a friend who has her's set west/east and it looks pretty cool and she's got really long fingers!! i'll send you a little detail that he added as well! I don't usually show anyone because it's so special to me! but i'll send you a pic of what's under the diamond in the platinum, its a heart! The prongs are set straight up 4 prong no x or u shape! i'm very plain and simple i like clean lines! so that's what i got!

Shoot! I can't get the picture to upload!! sorry!!!

oh yeah! and i'm getting a band made to match and sit flush w/ the ering. my grandmother is giving me 9 diamonds from my grandfathers ring so i will have them set into a band that looks just like mine flat w/the diamonds in it!!

Thanks so much Jennifer! I can't wait to see your setting.

Here is the actual stone itself, to better facilitate the dialog on settings for radiants. Obviously the "setting" is just one of those temporary tweezer things the jeweler uses, but yea... can't wait to get everyone's idease for settings.

Aha!

Take a look down Here... the example stood out, and there are quite a few alternatives worth inspecting where it comes from.
