setting for small pendant

I'm thinking of setting a tiny diamond for a diamond. The diamond is round and is about 3.5 mm (a 12 pointer). I saw today that I had the option to set in a three prong setting (would be rabbit ears). Would that be secure? Which would be better for a diamond this small, three prong or four prong setting for a pendant? I do not want to bezel set--I don't like bezel settings.

I love 3 prong settings so that would be my vote.

I think a 3 stone would be nice, but I'd look into a halo for a pendant in that size.
