Setting a Peridot in a ring

I ADORE the colour green (and yellow and pink but that's another story) and have been looking at Jeff Davies online ebay store for a Peridot.

The trouble is I don't know how to go about setting it. I have read that it is soft and am worried that the stone will get chipped or scratched during setting.

Can someone assist me with any ideas or pictures of Peridot rings that you personally own?

Is it hardy enough to be set into a ring with say 4 prongs? I was thinking of buying a generic setting for it.

Thank you!

It can be either prong or bezel set as long as the bench is very skilled with setting softer stones. Diamond setters are usually not as experienced with coloured stones, which needs a "gentler" touch.

Oh thank you! That is very useful information! It gives me an idea as I know a jeweller in town who sets some very nice stones (nothing I'm interested in but the rings are very nicely done).

Google says it's a 7 on the Moh scale so significantly softer than a ruby. Does this mean a solid bump while wearing it would be a very bad thing?

It is fine as jewellery, preferably as earrings or pendant but rings have to be babied somewhat since it can be scratched or fractured by a hard impact.
