Sooooooooo, I found a pear. I''m going to be on tenterhooks until I have it in my hot little hands! But I''m also starting to plan ahead, so ... any suggestions on how to set it, or with whom?

I''m thinking I want to do a bezel, like Deco''s gorgeous OEC studs. But if you guys have beautiful pear settings to suggest, I''d love to see them ... and if you know great bench-people in NY, or if you''ve had similar pieces done for yourself and can give me a ballpark on what to expect price-wise, I would appreciate it muchly. Thanks, guys!

Greenwich Jewelers. They''re downtown, 64 Trinity Place (Church st.)

They made me my bezel pendant back in 2006 and they charged me like 450 for platinum which was excellent. I had other quotes for around 800. I asked for a very thin bezel and chain and that''s exactly what I got. They did it perfectly.

Here''s 2 pics.

First one on at a bit of a distance.

Oh, that''s just beautiful! I will definitely get in touch with them.

Something it''s just occurred to me to worry about - do you think there will be any problems with setting an uninsured stone/stone from another vendor? I know other people have had issues with this, but I cannot for the life of me remember how people get around it ....

To be honest, i never thought of having it insured while being set so I guess I took a chance.
My last project was my moms pear pendant and I added it to my jewelers mutual policy before setting it. The cost is minimal and I did it for peace of mind. You can take out a policy for 6 months. I doubt it''s going to cost more than something like 50 bucks if even that much.

I''m sort of ashamed to admit it, but ... I''m a member of The Great Uninsured. Perhaps I ought to reconsider that ... but if I don''t, I wonder if there''s a way to just get insurance for the setting process?
