Me again - on a bit of a run at the moment :oops2:

Have been searching for the right elongated stone for an E-W YG bezel solitaire for some time. Was originally wanting an antique moval or marquise but recently realised the open culet I love would look like the pupil of an eye and that freaked me out, haha. I was considering stones in the faint brown range but ended up loath as I didn't want it to look too "engagementy".

I came across this stone and have pulled the trigger - whilst not my original brief, I love the colour, the evenness, lack of bow tie, and the "glow".

I am sure I want a bezel, but do I go cut down bezel with 4 claw prongs? Just a "plain bezel"? Setting will be cathedral with open pavilion and very simple from the side view. My finger size is 5 and the stone is 12mm in length so in a bezel, coverage is pretty much maxed out. Not wanting a halo.

Some inspo pics attached, but WWYD? Would love pics! (Pics from Andria Barbone, Sofia Kaman, JBG, Bliss Lau, Shahla Karimi amongst others). First pic is the actual stone!

I like all those designs! I sort of liked the non bezel because somehow it makes the stones shape stand out more.

I have a bezeled fancy yellow EW marquis ring that I love! I went with sort of a Georgian inspired setting, very hefty. I wear it on my pointer finger so I wanted to make sure it was sturdy lol.

I personally like the second option you posted but I’m biased since it reminds me of mine.

I really like the third one down, the claw bezel. also, I think rose gold would look great with the brown stone.

Rose gold looks bleeeeeech on me, haha. But was tossing up brushed vs polished YG, and antiquey yellow vs "normal" YG...

@pancake thats a gorgeous stone!

Thank you! I am really chuffed. Took me a moment to get over the idea of chunky antique facets but I think this will give me a sort of luminous glow, which is really what I'm after...

Is yours brushed/matte finish? I am really keen for this as I think it will allow more focus on the darker coloured stone, but wasn't sure whether "Georgian inspired" and "matte finish" were compatible concepts!!!

What about this type of setting (ignore shank, shape, orientation)?

It looks like a shaved down or faux bezel with prongs, thinner than a typical collet/prong setting but with that vibe...? 1000028930.png

Maybe something like the SK one I just posted above? A barely-there bezel with the prongs...

Stunning stone!

The opal ring I bought from @peppermintpatty on LT apparently used to hold a rosecut diamond. Maybe it'll still be helpful inspiration with the opal!

Gorgeous! How about setting it in a white metal - like WG or plat - instead? I think it would make the colour pop more!

I thought about this, but decided I wanted minimal contrast between stone and metal - hence thinking brushed YG so it sort of retreats into the background. I'm olive toned, I love wearing white metals (most of my jewellery is WG or play) but for this I want a sort of subdued low contrast look so the warm twinkle is the main thing..

I'm sending the stone to David Klass to set. I think something similar to this aqua setting is what I want? But with claws oriented N/S/E/W.

He's also done a CAD similar to the first setting but with a simpler pavilion (my request - ignore the pavilion sitting down in the ring, at that stage I hadn't picked a stone so we were working with approx L X W dimensions only) - I like that too, gahhhh. I've attached a pic. I think a hybrid of the two ideas would work? 1000028970.png

Here is a revised CAD with more traditional collet top...but I don't like it as much. Screenshot_20240427-090323.png

This is my fave so far! Thin "faux" bezel with claw prongs. This gets my vote!
