I'm just guessing here but I'm assuming that that it would be the same when sending your diamond to most if not all jewelers for a reset.
What I mean is that even if I lived in LA is it unlikely that my ring would be covered while it was out of my poccession and with the jeweler???
Is that right? What do most people do when they send their diamond out for a reset?

I don't want to take any overly silly risks with my diamond, although I know that it would be super well looked after while it's with Victor, but I'm thinking that if it's insured while its being Fedex'd back and forth, then sending it to Victor for a reset wouldn't be much different to giving it to my local jeweler for a reset....except that I will have a masterpiece in the end! Hehe.

Can I ask a general question?

If someone sends a diamond (or any stone) from Oz to Us to their jeweller, what is the proof that the jeweller is actually insuring it for the value while it`s in transit?

Like say the stone is worth $50000, do you just take the jewellers word that the insurance has been set up properly?

I wouldn't be overly confident and I'll make sure you check everything before sending your stone. I sent my stone to a well known jeweller in the States (Van Craeynest), they assured me that they prefer to set the gem themselves and are very experienced, my stone was damaged during setting but they didn't tell me, they also rushed sending the finished piece and the paperwork was not done properly, I had to pay GST on my own stone before Fedex would proceed with releasing the ring. When I complained to Van Craeynest about the damage they kept on threatening to sue me and belittle me in their correspondence. The owner says there are many good jewellers in Australia and can't understand why I decided to get my setting from them.

What a terrible ordeal for you to go through. Paying GST on your own stone is like a nightmare, not to mention the futility of trying to get any satisfaction from the jewellers who damaged your diamond then made you feel like trash with their who cares attitude.

I have a feeling that for me personally there is too much that could go wrong too. It`s not a fair and perfect world and I`m old enough to know that stress and worry are costs to me just as dollars are. In fact I`m second guessing even getting a halo because there is so much more to go wrong in all the details. And the devil is in all the details!!!!
