It's such a strange and wonderful stone!! From the video of the opal I thought it was only mainly 2 colours, red and blue. But as I've found out... its soo moody....
Ooooh! Pretty. My hubby gave me a black opal for Christmas one year. I sent it to a gal on Etsy who did a copper wire wrap for a reversible pendant. (I really should take a picture.)
This gem shows the electric red in artificial lights, and all the other colours in natural daylight. I havnt seen it in sunshine yet, it was a very rainy grey day yesterday and looks to be a rainy day again today!
I only wish it was a diff shape! I would have loved a drop or something... I'm finding this shape hard to work with. I'm re thinking my pendant idea from the other thread... so not sure for settings. If anyone has any ring ideas for a stone this shape; please share!
Wow!! I wouldn't have picked all the various moods of the stone from the pics I saw, it's almost like a colorplay-change stone (if there is such a thing?).
And those baroque shapes, they can be slightly hard to work with like that. I'd love to be able to give a suggestion for a setting but I am more a gem geek than a jewellery aficionado!
Completely agree jordy! Even in the video, not a hint of all the other colours. Justin told me there was no yellow in it
The thing is u can hold is and twist and turn it every way and all you see is red. Then somehow (I still havnt figured out how/which way) you hold it and all you see are the other colours...and just a hint of red. I've never imagined a stone like this.. really!
I think it's actually closer to being a colour change then having a broad POC
