Semantics: Would you call a 0.94ct stone a 1 Carat Diamond?

"Just enough under 1 carat to save three grand".

Love it!

 at Neil. Those are great, too.

Re: Semantics: Would you call a 0.94ct stone a 1 Carat Diamo

Thanks everybody! I think "just a hair under a carat, a .94" will work just fine. The more I dwelled on it the more silly/dishonest it made me feel trying to think of ways of passing it off as a full carat when it's not. She isn't very judgemental/high-maintenance and neither are her friends/family so it's not really a big deal in the long run. I just have to be honest about what it is that I bought, which is an absolutely beautiful diamond visually indistinguishable from a 1ct stone, and that the prestige of being part of the 1ct+ club isn't something I can afford right now if I want excellent cut with an E color. The product itself, minus the semantics and tech specs, is awesome and I wouldn't trade off anything about it just so I can bump up the carat size 6 points. Since I got the face-up size I wanted, the money I saved is better off going into the wedding anyway.

I'd just say it's "about a carat" or "right around 1 carat". If they ask for specifics, then you can tell them the exact decimal point number!

this. I don't think that many people in the "real" world are as concerned with diamond weight as the people on PS. For casual interactions I would go with the above statement.

Most people don't know much about diamond. They don't really care if your diamond is 1.0 carat or just below at O.94...it's about the same thing for 99% of the people you may meet in your daily life. So I think that saying your diamond is around 1 carat is ok, that's what I usually say about my 0.9 carat!

Re: Semantics: Would you call a 0.94ct stone a 1 Carat Diamo

I'm with the majority of replies here - "just under a carat" and that should suffice. As also mentioned, if it isn't someone in the know or a member of PS... then why would they need more info than that?

Like everything it seems, size matters only to a few. To you and your bride to be, it is as big as any rock out there, because it's the perfect size to represent your love for each other! (aw - how "mooshy" is that?!?!)

I say when the subject arises, "It is just under 1 carat." I have 2 beautiful stones - .91 carats and .95 carats. =)

If your GF asks, you should tell her the exact weight, of course!

If anyone else asks, and you want to tell them ;)) rounding is expected. I would say "about a carat" or "just under a carat". I would be more specific if the person was in the market for a diamond.

No one has asked me about the size of my stone, though. Most people ask "what cut is it?"....and I have a round. People will definitely ask about her gorgeous AVC!

This! Tell her the exact weight if she asks, but to anyone else, it's "about 1 ct." And for what it's worth, nobody has ever asked about the size of my stone.

^ Same here. Nobody asks me either, except for fellow jewelry lovers who are interested in technical things. Most of my friends have no idea what F or VS means. Discussions occur with a tiny minority of my associates who know or care about stones, jewelry etc.
