I agree. I was just pointing out that most professional buyers would probably do that, thereby reducing the amount that they can offer her.

TOTALLY AGREE.

My advice? Find a cheap second hand setting for it (like one of the 200 baguette settings you find on ebay occasionally). And put it up for an auction on ebay with a reserve of 1200, with an appraisal ($50). Set stone sell better on ebay. And it is just before Valentine's Day. Good time to sell.

Cheap pendant setting might be even better. You can get one from Rio Grande super affordable. Have it set and appraised. Stick it on ebay. If you have a cheap gold chain lying around, even better.
