I have 4 blue diamonds, about 1/4 carat each. What is the best way to sell them? Should I get an independent certification for each and post online? What is the best way to get the certification and how much does that cost? I bought several years ago but never really came up with anything to do with them. I'm also in the purchase of buying an engagement ring and had hoped to trade in, but since the best deals to purchase are online I can't really match up a transaction that way. Any suggestions?

Treated or untreated?
There is a huge difference in value and how to proceed.

^Yes, I agree. There is a big difference (between value/price) between treated vs. untreated.

I'm pretty sure they are treated.

I went on the GIA website, and saw that they will do a report for $147 that includes identification and origin as well as grading. I'm tempted to send one of the 4 just out of curiosity, since the others are probably similar, but assuming it comes back as decent quality albeit treated (or synthetic?), I still don't know how to go about selling. Here on PriceScope there appears to be a pretty limited selection, and those also appear to be the natural blue, based on the high prices.

You could try loupe troop or diamond bistro. You would definitely need to know whether they
are treated real diamonds or just synthetics. You could probably take them to a jeweler and see
What they can tell you. Might save you some money.

If they are treated (or synthetic) I probably wouldn't invest a ton of money into them at this point (for reports, etc.). If it was me, I'd take them in to one of my local jewelers and see if they would be kind enough to give me any info on them.

As you point out,GIA can tell you for $147 plus shipping but there may be other clues. If you bought 4 matched blues within the last, say, 20 years, and they weren't psycho-expensive, you either have treated stones or you have a seller who made a terrible mistake. You know your source. Is it a credible option that they would have made an error to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars?

Assuming they're treated, you will NOT get your $147 (plus shipping) back. Your resale value will almost certainly be less than that. Check out ebay and see what people are actually getting on treated blues.
