Hi PSers,
Question from a newbie to this forum, what do you think of this option of a J colored stone from JA. I haven't able to see a well-cut J colored stone in person but from everything I have read a we cut J color faces up pretty white. The setting is going to be simple solitaire in plat.

11,010
J, SI1
7.76*7.78*4.65
Depth 59.8
Table 60
Crown 32.5
Pavilion 41.2
HCA 2.4

My other option is http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Very%20Good-Cut-Round-Diamond-1459386.asp with the following specs
11,210
GIA 3EX
I, SI1
7.59*7.62*4.49
Depth 59
Table 61
Crown 32.5
Pavilion 41.2
HCA 2.3

I have requested JA to inspect for whiteness, eye-cleanliness and requested Idealscope images for both.

I have a 2 ct J oval that I love. In most lights, it's white, but not icy white. Occasionally, it shows a pale champagne color but it's not dingy or at all yellow. It's set in platinum.

The closeup in the box makes it look really tinted, but the box is bright white and in that photo it looks cream or yellow, so the entire photo is too warm.

Some people don't care for warmer colors, but I prefer them.

Thanks LibbyLA, that's a beautiful stone and love your setting! Give me more confidence to try the J. Your stone doesn't look one bit yellow even in the profile pics.

My boyfriend and I recently bought a GIA J antique style cushion from Leon Mege and I hardly see any color in it at all. Once I am engaged I can post photos but not until then! Good luck.

It depends on how color sensitive you are. I used to own a 1.5ish J Ideal cut (bought from one of the vendors here) and on it's own, it looks white enough, other than a hint of yellow if viewed from the side. However, in comparison to my friend's E 1 carat-ish round and under certain lighting conditions , it certainly looked yellow. My advice is to see it in person, under different lighting conditions. If you live in or close to NY it might be worth your while to hop over to JA's office to see them!
