Hi @Kimn and @DejaWiz, and anyone else that could possibly help! I am looking to buy a lab diamond, and found that you guys have been so incredibly helpful to so many on this website asking for assistance in finding their dream stone. I’ve been waffling between a ~4+ carat pear or a ~6+ carat emerald cut, and have almost pulled the trigger on buying from Alex Park several times, but have gotten cold feet at the last minute. Could you please lend me your expertise with some suggestions?

Lab Pear— Ideally I would like to spend less than $5000 for a ~4+ carat eye clean stone, but I can go up to ~$6500 for a perfect match. If possible, I would like to stick to a high H color or whiter, but the most important thing to me is how brilliant it is and that it has as small/nonexistent a bow tie as possible.

Lab Emerald— I’m also looking for a spready, well cut, eye clean ~6 carat emerald diamond. Ideally eye clean and as white as possible (not darker than H in color). My budget is anything under ~$7,500 but ideally less than $6,500.

I’ve found some on Alex Park’s IG, StoneAlgo, and the Pricescope search (Adiamor and B2C showed matches), but I am a novice when it comes to judging stones on the internet. Could you please help me?

I just purchased this one because it was at a ridiculously low price at $4,100. Was this a good buy?

I don’t know much about ECs but this one looks to have large facets and I don’t think you want that at all. Pretty sure you’re just going to be able to see right through it.

Respectfully, I don't like the appearance. It has poor on/off contrast. So much so that I actually often can't tell whether I am looking at the front or the back of the stone. @kenny is better at the lingo than I am, though :)

Thank you both for your input!! I’m not sure what to look at visually for a nice stone, so I basically saw “super ideal cut,” VS1, and “E” and trusted that it would be a good buy.

Definitely don’t go by the “super idea cut” any vendor uses unless it for a branded diamond. That’s just a gimmick. You want lots of small steps that flash off/on at different times. I’ll see if I can find an example but again I’m definitely not we’ll versed on emerald cuts.

I didn’t know if the video quality was just bad… ‍:doh:I saw IGI’s “Ex Ex” grading and thought that was standardized language for an excellent cut. I’m so glad that I double checked here— thanks again for getting back to me about this so quickly! I think I’ll hold off on purchasing again until I’m advised on specific stones by the experts.

I would definitely avoid this one. The facets are large so there will be light leakage.

Thank you guys so much, I went ahead and canceled my order.

I thought the same thing. I couldn't tell if I was looking at the back or the front.
