Hello, It's been awhile since I've been on this luscious website ;-) Well, my son is going to ask his girlfriend to marry him and wanted me to help him source a diamond. For the diamond we figure between $5,000-$6,000. At least one carat, GIA or AGS Cert only, VS2-SI1, GHI color, Exc-Very good cut. Do you think this price range is doable for a quality diamond? Feel free to help, as you can see, I'm only a "Rough Rock" :loopy: Thanks in advance! I love Pricescope!

Oops, I forgot to add diamond shape. ROUND maybe cushion too if it's full of fire.

How exciting! I also helped my son-in-law choose my daughter's diamond! It has to be excellent/ideal cut. let me see what I can find. Be back soon. Stick with a round at that size unless he is setting it in a halo since cushions will face up smaller.

Here are a couple of options (both top-notch cuts and within budget) -

1.061, K, VS2, round:

1.01, H, VS1, cushion:

Okay, here is a gorgeous top quality stone at $6604 with the pricescope discount and wire payment ($200 more if payed by CC):

This is a great buy for H color, and it just misses triple 0 because of excellent for polish. My daughter's diamond was one of these premium select stones:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3016680.htm ($6205) but ask if it is eyeclean, it doesn't say

I have also had great experiences with Good Old Gold:

You can get into the $5k zone with J color:

or consider the .90 range:

^ Nice finds. That's pretty much what I was going to say: You must bump the budget up above the $6000 mark if you want that color & clarity range in a top cut grade. A premium cut or a 60/60 type might be doable for $5000 - $6000.

Oh! Thank you DIAMONSEEKER and ROCKY! It is very exciting to actually help my son accomplish this. We will look at the stones tonight, but I'm favoring the $6,600 one from Whiteflash, and also the GOG for $6,600. I prefer the Cut Above and I know my son will be willing to up his budget. Thanks so much! I knew I could count on you guys! Diamondseeker, that must've been so an exciting moment for you, to find the "perfect" diamond for you own daughter!

Thank you TreasureHunter. That makes a lot of sense. We really need to keep the total budget at $7,000 for setting and diamond. I did put a hold on the WF diamond, but still looking. What do you think about the strong florescence? Would that only be noticeable to the consumer (us) when it's in the sunlight or UV lights? Thanks so much for all of your input, I really appreciate it!

According to the GIA

"For the average observer, meant to represent the jewelry buying public, no systematic effects of fluorescence were detected. Even the experienced observers did not consistently agree on the effects of fluorescence from one stone to the next.
"In general, the results revealed that strongly blue fluorescent diamonds were perceived to have a better color appearance when viewed table-up [ed: right-side up, as when placed in a setting] with no discernible trend table-down [ed: upside-down]. Most observers saw no relationship between fluorescence and transparency."

Only 0.2 percent of strong florescent stones may cause a negative affect, so its wise to ask or check in sunlight, the diamond will turn blue in UV light such as a nightclub but I and most people think its a cool effect.
Strong florescent will make the diamond look a bit whiter which is obviously not a bad thing, its really stupid that people don't want them.
Heres a video from good old gold comparing strong to none .

After that, just make sure with the supplier that the VS2 is eye clean as a black spot in the table could be visible to a young eye.
An SI1 can be eye clean as well so I used the pricescope search engine below to scan for diamonds filtered for $5000-6000 with HCA cut excellent, GIA or AGS cert, very good symmetry minimum , the G.VS2 stone one i posted before was the only one that made it into the range apart from a few others but they didn't make at least 6.4 mm, don't get 6.3 mm as thats a 90 pointer size.
About 10 other stones of G/SI1 also came up , at this stage its up to you to talk to the supplier and see if the stone is eye clean , preferably not an inclusion in the table even if VS2 or SI1.
Check for the milky affect and the eye cleanliness of the stone and if its a VS2 ask if its a true grade and not a misgrade.

Well thank you everyone for your recommendations and suggestions! After a lot of research and searching, he chose the 1.02 SI-1 J GIA XXX from Good Old Gold. I am happy to say that my son proposed to his FIANCEE!! last night. The ring is absolutely beautiful!! I am extremely color sensitive and can hardly detect any yellow. I'd say it's closer to the "I' color range. Thanks DIAMONDSEEKER for recommending this diamond! One of many reasons why I love Pricescope so much!

A shout out to both Stephanie and Vicki from GOG. Excellent communication with great honesty. Highly recommend GOG. Will definitely shop there again!

Also worked with Liza from Whiteflash and came close to buying, but the diamond he wanted was sold minutes before he wanted to purchase. Liza is phenomenal too. Class act.
