Hello! :wavey:

I had posted earlier about finding some comps for another diamond, but am open to looking at other diamonds so I thought I'd start a separate thread for this.

My FF and I are looking for a GIA or AGS cert modern round brilliant

1.4-1.6 ct or 7.4mm give or take in diameter
D-H in color - FF is very sensitive to color
As long as it's eye clean, we have decided that we can go down to at least SI2
Ideally we'd like 3x Excellent or AGS 000

As for budget, it's $15,000, but the lower the better so that it leaves more room for the setting which we have decided on to be Tacori 2639 in Platinum :)

Thank you so much for all of your help in advance and we really wouldn't know as much as we do without you guys!!

There is much information you can read here or at Good Old Gold. Look up "cheat sheet" in this forum using the Search feature. It takes you to a post that states angles, table sizes, etc. Look through PS database (Resources, Diamonds Search at top of page.) That search gives you the HCA rating -- look for stones 2 or less HCA. If nothing in the database there, then go to Brian Gavin, Whiteflash, Good Old Gold, etc. sites and search there. Plug dimensions into HCA cut adviser here, look for score 2 or less.

That helps you eliminate most of the leaky stones. James Allen doesn't provide ASET images with the listing. Others do. You need to look at the ASET image to see if there is leakage.

Love that setting by the way! I have considered 2638 without the halo. I neglected to say that it is best to buy stone and setting from the same vendor since they will cover your stone for any possible damage during setting and you don't have to insure until you get the completed ring.

Yes I have fallen in love with that setting and FF loves that it's simple, but still has character. I personally love halos, and he solitaires, so this was a nice compromise for the both of us. As of right now, we have looked at Diamonds Direct and they are a Platinum Tacori dealer and I have always been interested in working with Good Old Gold.

I believe they also do additional discounts if you purchase a diamond and designer setting from them, yes?

Last I checked with GOG , they told me they were only able to give the wire price discount on the diamond if you purchased a Tacori setting through them (I am not sure if that meant you had to still purchase by bank wire to get that discount if you bought the Tacori setting or if that was the same amount of discount you would receive regardless of payment method if you bought the setting).

I also recommend Good Old Gold since they are Tacori dealers. This is a very nice one:

Oh love that. I'd put it on hold so you don't loose it and have them make sure its eye clean.

Great sense you can get the setting there. Seems perfect!

I would ask GOG about additional discounts if you buy both from them. By the way, I have been to the Charlotte Diamonds Direct, too! But I have bought diamonds from GOG due to the superior cut quality. DD has a ton of settings, though!!!! I have just found it much easier to buy both from one place.

GOG provides a 3% discount on stone if you also purchase a setting priced over $2.5k

It's so hard to decide because we had such an amazing experience with DD, but the thing is that I know Good Old Gold will be sure to provide us with an amazing diamond. They are both Tacori dealers so it definitely makes it easier to go with either of them...

Decisions decisions....

Thank you for letting me know about the diamond and setting combo discount from GOG! Is it easier to email GOG to see if there are other diamonds that they do not have posted on the website?

They will be happy to call in other stones for you if you'd like to see a couple of other excellent cut stones to choose from. I have done it more than once! I live near a DD and like to look at settings there, but I have bought my diamonds at Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash.

What do you guys think about this diamond?

I spoke with someone at JA and they said that it was eyeclean at a normal viewing distance, but a gemologist can confirm that for me later. I have also requested an Idealscope image that will take a few days to get to me. The rep at JA said that the crystals are very small and that they're not noticeable without magnification. Should I believe that?

And also, it falls at a 2.4 on the hca scale but the rep said that it has 'outstanding light performance'. What should I make of this? Trust the numbers or the sales associate?

Should I even consider this diamond?

I think it's worth getting an ideal scope image on...

There are so many in your budget I'm not sure why you are considering that particular one. It doesn't even hit 7.4. What do you like about that particular one?
