It looks really pretty. I highly doubt it’s an L. I don’t know how important the color would be for you.

I agree, I’d be very surprised if it comes back an L. I like warmth and ideally want to be OP or higher.

I've spent 3 days reading through everything on this post. What a wealth of information! Can't wait to see how it all comes together for you!

Oh that’s so great, this post has been incredibly educational for me too. I’m glad it helps others. Are you also on the hunt??

Yes! I’d be honestly thrilled with an M-N. My fav diamond so far was an OP so I don’t mind that level of warmth, but I’m dying to know what color GIA assigns it.

I didn’t really look at color but L is very colorless and we’ve seen that stone a that size in L color are selling for closer to $27k. On that basis assuming they are asking closer to your budget I’d absolutely assume it’s more tinted.

My largest diamond was an eBay purchase back in 2012. It was sold to me as G color and it does face up very white. But when we unset it to repair the mounting it was obviously more tinted. Probably KL. I told the seller and they agreed to a 15% refund. If this is the case for you, and it very likely will be, ask for a price adjustment.

Also do you have an agreement with the seller that if it comes back less tinted or better clarity that the price will not go up? (Edit don’t tell them you will expect a price adjustment if it’s not as advertised yet. I think it’s best to cross that bridge if you come to it)

Good points, I was concerned about price adjustments after certification also.

It’s priced more like a lower color grade - $14900 with the cert. I am anticipating it coming in lower than an L. We did not discuss price adjustment up or down, but I asked if they would honor the price given, and was told yes. I also don’t know if it has fluoro or not. I also do not need or want to pay a premium for a higher clarity stone. If I can’t see the difference I’d rather not put dollars into that stat.

I wondered about the case of it coming in lower what to do. I’d return it if the color is lower than OP, or if I don’t love the cut.

I just found an oec for my engagement ring locally through a private sale. Now I want to make an oec Trinity and an 8 stone anniversary band. But I really don't know much more than the basics about oec... I just lucked out with my e ring. So this process you're going through is so helpful and exciting! I love the hunt!

The story is gone now. What is the estimated carat, color, clarity? Does it have eye visible incisions? What is the condition of the girdle?

I'm guessing it's at least an OP if not warmer.

It was 3.10ct and 9.4 mm, estimated as an L-VS, no visible inclusions I could tell from the video, and the girdle was not faceted, it looked like it had minor wear at some spots on the girdle, I asked if it was thin and they couldn’t recall, it had been sent to GIA by the time I asked for more details.

I’m glad you will get a lab report. I don’t know that seller so I have no context on pricing but it is at the low end for the size I think… maybe it’s a good deal and they count on moving things fast, but a GIA report will be very important for evaluating. Hope it comes back fast! Exciting.

The stats are back from GIA - the diamond is Old European Brilliant, 3.12 CTs, N color, VS2, 9.44 x 9.27 x 5.7 mm, depth is 60.9% and the table is 52%. I don’t have the plot yet.

The lower color is not surprising but is higher than my OP cutoff, the face up size is excellent.

I did try to negotiate on price, cost of the cert was removed but that’s all, it will be $14,500.

The diamond is still at GIA but I will have it in my hands next week and will post a million photos. Excited!

I’m so excited to see what your heart says! The faceting is really pretty on this one, the color is higher than the one you returned, it has the same face up, and a couple thousand less to boot!

I’m still in shock that you snagged this one, lol! It was like a matter of seconds from me sending it to you- to a Yup! I’m going for it and it had your name on it! There’s a lesson in here for myself lol

So excited for you… but excited for all us because we all get to live vicariously through you

This is good news! Color off by two grades lol, but still in the desired range. Nice clarity... remind me, is the girdle faceted? Do you know polish and symmetry?

I like those proportions too. The video is gone so I can't really recall what it looks like lol But that depth and table work well in my experience.

Insane price lol.

I'm so excited for this! In addition to a million photos, can you share at least a few videos in different lighting too?

I’m pretty happy with the results also!

The girdle is not faceted, it came back as very thin to medium. I asked if it was original or touched up and they said original, unfaceted girdle.

Polish & symmetry: both listed as good but there are notes:

Polish: tp, l.h - transparent, lower half - some transparent polish lines detected.

Symmetry: “aln fac mm uo” some wonk (uo is uneven outline), misalignment with crown and pavilion facets (aln fac) and misshapen main facets (mm).

Clarity characteristics are listed in the key: “ Chip, Cloud, Bruise, Indented Natural, Needle, Pinpoint, Extra Facet”

Cert number not searchable on GIA report lookup, imagine it will take a few days to go live? It’s 1232626545

Thank you for being quick with it! This was a lucky snag!

I liked it right away and it was priced right and returnable so it felt much easier to go for it this time. Instagram diamond buying like this is kind of insane but I love it lol, I’m having a lot of fun with this.

So promising and better overall pick for what I’m after than the last one.

Thank youuu!!

You are so welcome! I just happened to see it 20 seconds after they posted it

Yes this all looks very promising and I love that she’s original.

It is almost 2AM here in New York and I am finishing this thread, eagerly anticipating this latest diamond arrival.

I’m in more of the colored stone space but feel like I’ve learned so much valuable information from you lovely humans! Thanks so much for the thorough documenting :)

I’m curious if these types of notes are a new thing for GIA:

“ Polish: tp, l.h - transparent, lower half - some transparent polish lines detected.

Symmetry: “aln fac mm uo” some wonk (uo is uneven outline), misalignment with crown and pavilion facets (aln fac) and misshapen main facets (mm).”

This seems much more detailed and descriptive on polish and symmetry than I recall for any of my GIA reports.

I thought/recall my reports were just graded with a single rank scale, not detail like this.

Are these reporting details new?

So I got the GIA report back and these details aren’t on it! These details came from the email from GIA that was sent to the vendor in CSV and then forwarded to me. The cert# is 1232626545, for reference.

I don’t recall seeing these details on reports previously, either, so I’d love someone who knows more to comment on this. Perhaps they only show up on more detailed reports or a more expensive report tier, would be my guess? But I don’t really know just speculating.

I had to look up what these codes meant and I found them all in this file from GIA, which was extremely informative:

I’m slightly annoyed that the diamond isn’t laser inscribed but the clarity features match the report so I mean, fine.

Anyway, post with photos and videos incoming!

The Verma diamond arrived!

The GIA cert is 1232626545.

The diamond is a fireball and very bright. The color is definitely a whiter face up than the OP I returned. It has a beautiful ivory warmth, the body color is a pleasant warm yellow.

There are a few chips at the girdle, one is larger and captured in a photo. There are some minor chips besides that one, and is also frosted. The girdle is a little wavy, but it looks as the vendor said, untouched, it shows the age.

The facets under the table do not all blink off at once and the center is not dark facing up. There are adjacent facets that are “off” together but not all of them at once and I see this rarely, I’ve got to really look for it, it was hard to capture.

What I see most is the fire and scintillation. This diamond is much more lively than the last one. Theres a lot of color flashes, I was able to capture some of them in the photos, the tiny rainbows kill me!

There’s a cloud inclusion that you can only see in the close ups, I attempted to capture it in video and it also shows up in a few stills. It’s interesting, almost has the appearance of an oil slick while in motion, it’s slightly iridescent with a white center under the loupe. It’s near the edge of the table and a star facet. This does not bother me, since it’s only visible under magnification. If anything it’s fascinating, I haven’t seen a cloud that appears like this before.

I greatly appreciate all your feedback and scrutiny.

She’s beautiful. The cut is very very nice. Lots of kozibe and the faceting is just symmetrical enough to ensure you have lively scintillation and yet it has a hint of chaos to interrupt the pattern. Marking it clearly as an OEC and not a transitional. I love the profile and that nice beefy crown.

There is a touch of leakage around the inner periphery of the table. This is very common in cuts with these kinds of proportions. The table is just a hint larger than might be supported by the short lower halves, among other things. But it is not distracting and I think it’s just what happens in this make. The trade off is the nice petals and “coffin” facets under the table that make it so lively, so it’s worth it. Just make sure that doesn’t bug you. It would appear to the eye as a bit of a crescent or ring of mushier facets just inside the table edge . It’s probably most evident in bright sunlight like these videos and pictures. On tilt it might feel like you can see into the stone rather than seeing facets reflecting mirror-like. Of course, my vision isn’t good enough to see such a thing in person lol

That chip wouldn’t bother me at all. The girdle otherwise is in good condition. She’s a real beaut!

I love her! She’s so bright, and the movement is so pretty. Shes an old girl, so her tiny chip gets a pass in my world…

Wear her with a holder as much as you can, in all lights, inside outside, morning, night… if you have a restaurant that is dimly lit and brown… bring her- safely, lol. So you can see her at her worst. Listen to your heart…
If she’s the one, I’m over the moon happy for you! But no pressure… I am happy to keep my eye out for you, it’s keeping me from going crazy saving and looking for a sapphire

Mmmmm, I like it!!

Thank you for replying, I really like the stone a lot!

I see what you are saying about light leakage, I’m not sure this bothers me, it hasn’t been something that I notice too much, but in some lights I have started to see the “blink off” of the petals a little more. I feel like this is not a big deal to me either.

I’ve looked at the diamond in a lot of different environments, including the office, to see how it looks inside, outside, etc. In most all conditions, it’s got a lot of fire and sparkle. My friend called it “blinding” and noted it was hard to focus on because it’s so sparkly.

I am leaning towards keeping it! I have until Monday to decide.

yay! From the pics and videos it’s definitely a stone I would keep too! Especially because it ticks so many boxes and the cut is very very nice.
