*I am interested in one of Scott Kay's settings.
Can one buy from Scott Kay directly?

*Which is better as far as durability and perfection?

a: a hand-made setting

b: a casted setting

*Which shows off a round stone better?

a: a wire basket with a setting bar

b: a V setting

c: an X setting

*Which makes a round stone appear larger and more sparkly?

a: a traditional setting with baguettes

b: a channel setting with round stones or princess stones

Any advice and or opinions would be very welcome.

No. SK settings are only available from retail jewelers who have purchased a dealership which provides them with relative exclusivity within their territory. Web sales are "strongly discouraged" in fact, SK wouldn't even talk to us before we opened our new B&M Store.

Depends... On who made the setting and how they made the setting... A hand rolled, hand carved setting would be our preference any day, but few consumers are willing to pay for it. Die cast settings are generally more durable than cast settings, but here again, it depends on who did the casting, whether they used plumb casting shot or they mixed their own alloy... There's no easy generic answer here...

It's a matter of personal preference. What look do YOU like? Each setting style you have mentioned is unique and offers it's own benefits in terms of appearance... It's like asking what color is going to make my Porsche look sleeker, black, red, or silver? Each person is going to give you a different answer depending on their color preference and personality...

Ditto... However we'd like to say that we're not all that fond of baguettes... They lack in personality and offer very little in terms of sparkle... Princess cuts are a little better, but rounds will always be more brilliant...

We wish we could be more "helpful" here, but most of the answers you seek really come down to personal preferance...
