So this morning getting ready for work, I dropped my E Ring in the bathroom on the tile. Pling, pling, Pling.....

It came to a stop ON THE VENT (OLD HOUSE WITH OLD VENTS WITH BIG SLITS)! With the shank down the vent and the edge of the pear (the point) handing on to the vent and my cat''s paw

being the only thing stopping it from sliding down to the furnance.

My cat Hoover always sleeps on that vent and thankfully his paw blocked the ring from going down. I was begging that cat to not move in the 3 seconds it took me to retrieve that ring.

So it got me thinking, what the scariest place you have dropped a nice rock?

That is terriyfing! I hope Hoover got many many treats that night

I've only dropped it once and then never again took it out of it's foam to admire it.

I was ogling my precious while sitting on my bed and ended up dropping it onto the sheets. When something that small drops onto my bed it usually rolls off the bed and is never to be seen again. I panicked and sent a quick prayer and found it ten minutes later after combing every single inch of the blankets.

I always take all my jewelry off before getting in the shower. I always take it off in my bedroom and put all the jewelry in their little homes *before* walking downstairs. But, there was one day that I forgot to take out my beautiful diamond studs. I get into the bathroom, thinking "Well, I will just sit them on the counter while I take my shower and then I will carry them back upstairs." Well when I went to pick them up, one slid out from under my finger and ALMOST fell into the sink drain!

I about had a heart attack!!! From now on, I will walk back upstairs if I forget to take any of my diamonds off before my shower!

The scariest place for me is the tile that is all over our house. Everything dropped on it chips or breaks. I have dropped my ring a couple times but so far it has been okay. My hearts stops every time.

My 0.50 ct, IF, E, ex,ex,ex diamond solitaire, which i had before the upgrade, slipped from my fingers and fell in the sink''s drain while i was washing my hands and i had foam on them

. After that the entire neighbourhood heard me screaming, crying and cursing

...I felt how it is when somebody''s having a heart attack

. Thank God, most sink pipes in Greece have a weird kind of shape which goes down vertically right under the sink, then up then down again...(most probably, the person who invented that, had a fiancee who was dropping rings in her sink...
38.gif
). So unless there''s a lot of water running in the pipe in full pressure, a small object with a certain weight (like the ring) will not make it up the pipe and down again, in order to be lost in...the eternal darkness
5.gif
. I was very lucky coz i always keep the tap off while i''m soaping my hands (wasting water here is consider a crime against humanity!). The ring stayed safely in the curvy part of the pipe, until my dad drove to my home, took apart in pieces the entire sink''s system and gave me my ring back...

Naty: That piece of plumbing is, oddly enough, called a "sink trap".

Yes, I think "most" sinks are designed with these (not sure if it is a building code), in North America too, at least these days. They are usually in showers and such too.

My sinks all have screens in them too, and my vents are all placed high on the walls/ceilings.

I have not dropped mine anywhere too scary yet but I have worried about doing so once or twice when I had to take it off and put it down!

For my first engagement, I had a 1ct pear and it was the first nice piece of jewelry I''d ever owned. I cleaned it constantly... well, one morning I scrubbed it as usual and put it on a piece of toilet paper to dry. The phone rang and I picked up the phone and the tp-wrapped ring (I think you know where this is going now) and walked from one end of the house to the other, chatting away with my friend. Eventually I ended up in the other bathroom, still yakking, looked down and saw the wad of toilet paper in my hand, threw it in the toilet and flushed. I didn''t even realize what I''d done until about a half-hour later when I got off the phone and went to get my ring to put it back on. Talk about a sickening feeling...it wasn''t even insured as I''d only had it a couple of weeks and we hadn''t gotten around to it.

Fortunately, we had a septic tank so all hope was not lost. Two long fishing nets and five hours of searching later, and the ring was recovered. From this experience I learned a few things:
1. Septic tanks smell like the old Toni home perms.
2. Gum really doesn''t get digested at all.
3. A diamond ring recovered from a septic tank is surprisingly sparkly and clean.

Alright, alright Mike, make fun of me for not being an expert in plumbing

At least now, thanks to you, i know that there is a term about that thing

I wasn''t being a jerk, I promise! Just saying how lucky it is that the inventors of indoor plumbing saw a need for a sink trap.

I''ve actually dropped my ring down the garbage disposal once. Luckily it didn''t go down the drain and I was able to fish it out with a pair of chopsticks. :)

Back in the 1960's , my mother lost hers in the trash- 3 carat emerald cut. We lived in an apartment building. Garbage went down a shoot to the basement. She was coloring her hair that day, and the ring got disposed of in the day's garbage, as she took her ring off for the big messy process.

What a day! building mainteance searched the garbage in the basement, dad and I even went down to search, but no ring ever found.

I'm still traumatized!

thanks for the laugh...i will be telling this story to my jewelry friends who own stores to pass on to their customers!

Not dropped, but scariest was when I was walking and swung my arm and hit my diamond at full movement on the back of a chair that happened to be made of solid metal. WHACK!

Luckily, it didn''t chip.

Once when DH and I were eating out at a resturant and sitting out the deck, he was fiddling with his ring and dropped it and it fell between the deck board slats and he had to climb under the deck to retrieve it!

Very scary moments! Now I am going to have nightmares. I have dropped mine on floors, whacked it on walls, chairs and doors but the scariest moment was I put mine in my pants pocket one time (I took it off when I was going to wash my hand) and after wandering around outside for about 90 minutes I realized it when we got in the car - no ring. Luckily it was still in my pocket.

oh my God -that is SO something I would do - I can be so careless. It`s horrible.. but it`s a funny story because it did not end in tears - just a really gross few hours!

I haven`t dropped my new studs or my eternity bands anywhere particularly scary yet.. but I`m sure the day will come :) I`m terribly clumsy

I definitely learned my lesson...I now have a little ''ring cleaning area'' on the counter and my rings don''t leave it unless they''re on my hand or in their box. Well, earrings now too...Maevie, you and I have very similar studs; I bought mine right after you bought yours and as I recall the specs are pretty much the same. I find I clean them even more than my rings, but maybe that''s just because they''re newer.

Which reminds me...I really need to call about jewelry insurance...

I had my ring in my pocket so I could put on lotion at work. I went to use the bathroom, and it fell out of my pocket and flew under the stall door. I was *ahem* "indisposed" at the time, so I had to finish up and go out to look for my ring! Anyone could have walked in and picked it up, and what''s worse, it was a few inches form a drain in the floor!!

Don''t tell DH, he''ll take away my diamonds for sure if he found out!

A girl I know dropped her ring down the elevator shaft at her bachelorette party in Las Vegas. The casino found and returned the ring, but the setting was a little damaged from the 30+ story fall.
