What are some sayings that just grate on you?

A few of mine:

You deserve it.
____ is as blank does.
I''m stressed.

I hate "it''s nice". Just bugs me for some reason. Can''t think of any more at the moment but I''m sure I''ll think of them later.

I hate those "corporate" sayings like
"touch base" and
"shoot me an email"

and i know there''s more so i will definitely add to the list as i think of them...

"Because at the end of the day..."

and

"It is what it is..."

Just irk me...

bridge the gap
fast track
bring to the table
outside the box
buy in

Have a good one....

Anyways...

and I hate this Corporate one..

Keep me honest.

Those just bug me.

My boss is always telling me to give him the "Cliff''s Notes" version of case histories...he says it ALL the time and it is very irritating.

Namaste, I hate "touch base" as well.

"Blah, blah, blah... in this economy."

ETA: "It is what it is" drives me crazay!

A phrase that seemed to pop up after the Lacy Peterson murder case, "went missing" - Now it seems every news anchor says that when speaking about a missing person. I know it''s a really silly thing and it''s a terrible topic to begin with, but I have to say it irks me for some reason every time I hear that phrase used.

Oh and it''s not really a "saying" but it is something that I encounter every day:

Them: How are you feeling?
Me: Good, I''m tired though.
Them: Pfft, if you''re tired now, you just wait until the kid arrives.
~~If you weren''t interested in how I''m feeling now you shouldn''t have asked.

Corporate speak drives me up the wall. The most popular sayings people in my department are spouting out at meetings now are:
- "on it like white on rice"
- "burning platform"
- "it''s bigger than a bread basket" (Seriously, how the heck does that make sense? Where are these giant bread baskets that everyone seems to be referring to?)
- "from soup to nuts" (means: from beginning to end... why don''t they just say "from beginning to end"?)
- "a well-oiled machine"
- "cut the fat and running lean"
- "skill to kill"
Incorrect sayings that aren''t words or mean the exact opposite of what the person intends to say drive me up the wall too -- "anyways" (instead of "anyway"), "irregardless" (instead of "regardless"), "could care less" (instead of "couldn''t care less"), etc.

**Deep breath** Man, am I glad it''s Friday!

Thritto!

And I hate it when people say "Hi, how are you?" But they really don''t expect an answer. It''s just like "how are you" is an extension of hello.

i can''t stand hearing "in this economy" either..

oh and "believe you me" never made sense to me.

I hate them all...........

In Ireland if you mention the weather at all (and it is not raining) the response from the other person will ALWAYS be:
"well, at least it''s dry"

I also hate:
Cheer up, it might never happen.

Thought of another one, President Bush made this saying popular, now I hear it often in speeches: "Make no mistake, ..."

It''s not rocket science.
I mixed that one with another similar one and got a saying I quite like! "It''s not rocket surgery." Makes people think twice.

The current one at the top of my ARGH! list is "____ is setting them (students) up to fail." People at my school use it ALL the FREAKIN'' TIME--so much so that it was mentioned over a dozen times in just ONE meeting. Makes me want to tear my hair out.

I also really don''t like, "Well I don''t know but..." If you don''t know, why are you still talking?!

YESSSSSSS! and here it is....

"off of"

As in -

"I got off of the ramp"

"We need to get that off of the table"

"Turn off of the I95"

How about we lose the bad grammar and try instead...

"I got off the ramp"

"We need to get that off the table"

"Turn off the I95"

Sends me mental. Absolutely mental.

"Make it happen"

I''m always expecting a slap on the a$$ after hearing that...

"Things happen for a reason"

No they don't , you make things happen, it's all about choices.
If things happened for a reason, what is the reason for children dying, massive tragedies , and the "doings" of pedophiles and murderers??

Yes, I hate it when people say "I could care less." I always want to say, "Then why don''t you?"

I thought about that so many times. Gotta say I agree.

People who say "for all intensive purposes" it''s intents and purposes.....if you don''t know what the correct expression is then you shouldn''t be using it.

I second the "believe you me". What a stupid phrase.

And I don''t know if this is the cow statement that was referred to above, but "why buy the cow when you get the milk for free?" I mean come on. Really? I''ve said it before in a completely joking manner, but the people who mean it drive me crazy. On so many levels. Again.... REALLY?
