Straight to the question:

Is the money you would save by buying a ring online worth the money you would pay to have a white gold ring replated?

I am looking online for an engagement ring and there are some good deals compared to a B&M store. I figure that once I would buy it, I''d pretty much be done with the company as far as ring maintenance goes. I wouldn''t want to have to be mailing a ring back and forth to get it worked on. Most warranty for online vendors say the warranty is void once the ring is worked on by another jeweler. I definitely wouldn''t mail a ring back just to get it cleaned and taking it anywhere else would void the warranty.

Basically, what is the cost of replating? I know it depends on how fast the white gold starts to fade, but obliviously there is no way to tell until my girlfriend would wear the ring. And I don''t know yet how much money I would be saving online?

Is spending few hundred more at a B&M store and them replating for free better/worse/equal to buying online and paying for the replating.

Thanks

I just got a yellow gold eternity band plated to be white gold. At the same time I had it sized down 1 full size. It cost me $79 for both at a B&M - and I didn''t buy it there originally. Some online places will replate for you, though you have to send it to them which you might not like. I don''t know what your threshold is, but I would much rather buy online and get the savings - cuz I am sure you will save more than $79!!
