I’ve been engaged for a couple of months now and have been going back and forth whether to resize my ER or not. It’s a 5.75 and I think I need a 6. I use to be 5.5 but I think those days may be long gone.
I’m currently on the intermittent fasting trend and thought- I’ll lose the stubborn 10lbs and the ring will fit perfectly. Well, we are still not there yet. I think it’s like-not wanting to get rid of your smaller size jeans for the hope of...one day...

Ironically enough it was the jeweler that picked my size. He said it should be snug. While I agree with that-there is such a thing as too snug, right? Like circulation issues. I kid, but the ring does leave a mark on my finger. My fiancé even questioned the jeweler and said, you don’t think she’s a 6? He does know me best. Haha

So, my question, how tight is your ring? Does it create finger fat? I’m hesitant on resizing but concerned with summer months approaching.

This is just my opinion but I think, if it’s leaving a mark on your finger, you should size it up. If it fits like this now (during winter), imagine how it will fit when it’s a thousand degrees outside. My fingers must swell a good 1/4-1/2 size in the summer heat.

I’d get it bigger, in the winter it should feel a little loose because the summer heat will definitely make your fingers swell more! I actually like my rings a little loose and I saw someone on here refer to it as “finger bracelets” or something ;) But obviously do what suits you!

That’s my concern too-Summer! Right now, I’m okay and it feels comfortable, but I also didn’t eat anything salty today. Depending on what I eat- the ring feels more snug and in the mornings forget about it!

When you resize a ring can it be done same day or would I need to drop it off?

My ring and middle fingers can be as much as half a size bigger in the summer.

Therefore, if the ring is intended to be taken off regularly, then I would advise getting a slightly bigger size.

DK :))

It depends where you go but it’s a quick and painless process. It should be done within a day or so. It’s also fairly inexpensive (less than $100).

I suggest sizing it up to 6 and use a small ring guard that you can put on and off when the ring seems a bit loose. It will be just right some of the time, too loose sometimes and tight on other days. It looks a bit tight on your finger in the photo.

I have attached a photo of just one of many which can be temporarily installed.

I had my finger sized 3 or 4 times by different jewelers under different weather conditions prior to buying. I was recommended 5.25 up to 5.5. I chose 5.75 to reduce the bulge look and to accommodate those really bad swelling days. I lost a few pounds after that and when it’s cool outside the ring is very loose. When it’s warmer I still swell and it fits fine but isn’t as tight. It is loose enough to pull off without any real resistance (it won’t fling off accidentally tho).

In my experience even when it’s loose I still see a small bulge above and below. It doesn’t bother me. it’s only when it’s really cold that the bulge goes away but at that point the ring can slip off itself if I wave my hands around.

I guess that’s a long winded way of saying wait a bit before deciding. Maybe even closer to the wedding? That’s what I’m doing. I’m also keeping my rings looser so I can wear them longer during future pregnancies. Most of my colleagues with kids had to get their rings resized larger after having their children. Their finger sizes did not go back down (likely due to various factors including age, weight gain, permanent changes in joints). I might resize after children if necessary.

if it’s tight now esp when you swell you will find it uncomfortable. Resize. You can always resize again!

Make sure you try it on with a band that is the width of your future wedding band. Also—if you plan on stacking, try it on stacked. The more width-the larger you will need to go.
My e-ring and wedding band are both only 2mm but it was enough to want them slightly larger than if I just wore one.

I prefer moderately loose rings. Most of mine are 4.5 to 5 but I can wear a 4 - I just don't want to wear a 4 because it leaves a mark and is hard to get over my knuckle. Some people prefer very snug rings though.

Since it's just a solitaire, I say size it up and don't worry about it. You can always size it down if you need to later.

Omg, SAME! I used to be a size 5 1/4, but i feel the same, my fingers just are bigger now, period. The tiffany band i just bought was a size 5.5, and i struggled with "maybe i can make it work"? But, i got real, and it at tiffanys right now being sized up. I want to be able to wear it in summer! So, yes, i would size up 1/2 size, if its tight right now.

I'm in the exact same position! I love my 7 stone ring that I got from IDJ but I've been noticing that it's a little tighter. My issue is, I can put it on just fine some of the times but then sometimes, it's really tight and I have to run my finger under cold water before I can put it on. I'm almost afraid to size it because what if I size it too big? But I'm also thinking that in the summer, I'm not going to be able to wear it. I don't really have a trusted jeweler so it's hard for me to consider leaving it with someone. Does anyone know if IDJ does resizing? I would have to send it to them, I'm not local to them. Sorry for hijacking your thread, diamonds. I just definitely understand!

That's what my ER looks like on me, and I think mine is too tight

HI:

I didn't see any "sausage" fingers. Just a beautiful ring and hands.

FWIW, the jeweller isn't wearing your ring. :)) If it feels tight and leaves a mark, those are clues: size up.

cheers--Sharon

OP, you have a beautiful ring and lovely hands, but I am sorry to say - your ring is tight! I would size it to at least a 6.25, 6 will not be enough imho, especially if you plan on wearing it with a band but even without, you need a 1/2 size up.

To me it looks too small.

I have the type of fingers where I will always have ring muffin top and have a permanent indentation no matter how loose my rings are. I just make sure they are easily removable but not so loose that shaking my finger or washing my hands will cause me to lose them and call it a day. I'm sure people here look at my fingers and think OMG! It's so tight it MUST be cutting off her circulation!!! But it really isn't. I also size half a size up for stacking because as soon as multiple rings go on what's a comfy size 6.5 usually gets tight, especially with 3 rings. So my advice is to basically check and see what feels right to you. Does it slide off when your hands are wet? Does it slide when you shake your hand? No? Can you get it off with only a little pulling? Yes? It's probably a good size. And if you have muffin top. Who cares? I know I do not look at people's fingers when they post pictures. I'm more interested in the jewellery! :D

Depends how long it is until your wedding. Because it looks to be that sort of tightness where it's just about OK on its own, but would definitely need sizing up when you're wearing a wedding band. If you have it sized up now... then again before you get married... that's two alterations. If you can wait until you get married .... that's only one alteration which is better for the ring.

Thanks everyone! My fiancé is contacting the jeweler to resize. I don’t want to part with my baby but it will be worth it in the end.

It looks too tight. I would definitely resize! Here is a bad picture, but you can see how loose I like to wear my rings. No indentations or marks, even in summer heat. I do have a bigger knuckle so my loose rings don't ever fall off.
