this post goes to all the experts familiar with these 2 machines.

i am helping out my jeweler who i befriended after appreciating all the work he did for me in finding me my "perfect" diamond.

he discovered that there are only about 2 sarin machines here in hawaii and felt many stones being represented here were being represented falsely, ie. switching of sarin reports, etc.

so he decided that as an added service to his customers, he would like to purchase a machine that can help grade the cut. his dilemma (sp?) right now is which machine to buy? he is looking at either a sarin machine or an ogi megascope. he''s just not sure which is the better machine with respect to accuracy, ease of use, maintenance (how often you have to recalibrate, etc.) and any other quirks he would need to know.

this is where i turn to you experts. what would you recommend he get and why? is there also a particular model of sarin or ogi megascope he should get?

i really would like to help him out. after having done my research, i know for sure that there are many people here in hawaii who are being taken by many jewelers. in fact, many of them i wouldn''t even call "jewelers" with their lack of knowledge.

this place is trying to help it''s customers get the best they can as well as ensure peace of mind. that''s why he''s decided to invest the money.

all help would be appreciated! thanks and aloha.

maybe i'm just a lame-o but i tried doing "ogi vs. sarin", "sarin vs. ogi", "sarin ogi", etc. and not finding the answer. can someone just point me in the right direction?

thanks.

try
ogi sarin
and other simple combinations

You know, I tried putting in (ogi megascope), (ogi sarin), etc. I couldn't find the threads you refer to either, cut nut.

Instead of sending 69m on a hunt, perhaps you could just indulge him....make his life a bit easier and just give him your opinion here. 69m is a regular contributor here, and I'm sure it would be time well spent on your part.

Thanks!

I may be one of a very few people in the entire world that has a Sarin Diamension and two Ogi Megascopes. Both work virtually eqally as well. The Sarin has name brand recognition and the Ogi is a little less costly. I use them interchangeably.

Now, there are techinical differences, but the end results are very similar... If it matters to a client, we use the device of their choice. I have no preference after several years of using them both...

thanks for the response. is one any easier to use or require less maintenance like calibration? are there any quirks that you don't like about either of them?

thanks again!

Sorry, had a busy day.

Sarin measures angles better and Ogi measures sizes better.

For hCA Sarin is better because it gets the pavilion angle more accurate and that is critical for accurate HCA.

There are new devices coming out soon. Dave has been involved in the development of one of them. I do not know ow accurate it will be. The other I do know is extremely accurate, and will one day replace many human functions.

Second Dave's opinion. We have also used both the Sarin
Diamension and top of the line OGI MegaScope.

Both are excellent machines, provide detailed reports,
and come with excellent tech support. The MegaScope is significantly less money.

Calibration checks are simple enough. Adjustments are not overwhelmingly difficiult on either. Certain very minor "errors" can't be erradicated due to programming issues. They can be custom programmed to deliver results in a format you want to use.

Both are equally rapid. No real user issues exist.

No problems with either and no complaints.

thanks to david, barry and garry for their expert input. i knew you guys were the gurus to turn to for technical questions!
