Hi all,

I''ve been reading the pricescope forum for some time now and have been getting some great information! I''m currently in the process of selecting an engagement diamond for my girlfriend, but I''m starting to get a little confused by all the tools an reports out there.

For example, I''d like to pick a stone that has the most light return, scintilation, and fire. I''ve read that HCA is a good tool for weeding out bad performers. However, I''ve recently encounterd a stone that had an HCA score of 2.2 based off the Sarin reports, but with "very high" scores (white light, color light, and scintillation) in the brilliances scope analysis. One analysis seems to tell me that it is only a fair stone, while the other is telling me it has great visual qualities. Which analysis (HCA or BrillianceScope) is more reliable in telling me the true visual performance of the stone?

Any information would be greatly appreciated and helpful!

The hca uses averages and can be a little off on some diamonds.
The b-scope just measures direct light performance not total diamond performance.
Look at all the data not just a couple tools.

Sparky0173, welcome to the forum

these questions had discussed in many variations here before. (you can try to search for different topics about HCA and Brilliancescope)

As Storm sez, plus you might want to use your own eyes.

HCA 2.2 is not a fair but VERY GOOD score. HCA accuracy also depends on accuracy, model and calibration of the Sarin machine. It still can be a great looking stone.

Brilliancescope' VH does give some assurance but doesn't guarantee you'll like a stone with VeryHigh3 vs VeryHigh1 or High3. Some expert say that BS cannot look at the stone as human eyes...

You can use these tools by preliminary filtering and the stone you find is probably a great looking stone. Some may say that you should see the stone and not to buy just by numbers... It is all up to you.

Post Sarin data here along with the carat size and diameter so we'll have something more to chew on.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies and welcome! I''ll definitely do a more detailed search of the forum to see what other information I could find!

In the meantime, here is some information from the Sarin report:
Weight: 0.93 ct
Dia: 6.27mm
Depth: 62.0%
Table: 56.5%
Crown angle: 33.8%
Pavil angle: 41.1%
Culet: 0.1%
Girdle 1.7% (1.5-2.1)

This diamond is a D VS2.
As far as the Brilliancescope, with white light and scintillation it is about one third the way between the end of the high mark and the end of the very high mark. The color light is flush with the very high mark.

Hopefully you could offer some opinions on this diamond!

Thanks!

Looks very promising. There is no need to split hairs with HCA.
