Sapphire for yellow gold ring

Hello! I'm a newbie who's been stalking for a while, and I've read some other threads about buying (relatively inexpensive) sapphires. I'm thinking something like $600-800, which would leave a little left over in our e ring budget for an either three-stone or solitaire setting (and I'd be very happy going lower if a lab-grown seems like the best bet). My boyfriend is red-green colorblind, so he's definitely not interested in getting involved in the whole process of choosing a loose gem...

I'm looking for a round cut 5-6mm medium blue sapphire (if I had to pick between blue-purple and blue-green, I'd go with purple) and care more about color than cut, as long as it sparkles some. I don't have any preferences as regards treatment, and I'd also be open to lab-grown gems. The previous threads have been really helpful! I'm not sure how much the color of the setting affects the stone, but I'd be interested in getting a yellow gold setting (I'd originally thought white gold, but it turns out yellow looks great on my skin...)

Don't buy synthetic, with regular stones, you can always upgrade, with time.

To be honest, I always considered Master Cut inexpensive. I did not see any round that I liked, the color that is nice is this https://www.mastercutgems.com/Produ...-GemMedia.php?FromPage=1&ProductMediaID=37059 but Dana, as I understood, often has rough so maybe contact him? He has many curious things, he once sent me as a gift "a poor man's alexandrite", a color-change round sapphire which I put into an antique brooch and it really looks very interesting.

Another person whose prices are very good and who often has sapphires is Jason Brim, he has Facebook and a website, I think. Select Gem (I did not find it online, but it is on FB). Also Gems Glorious, on FB.

Thanks Arkteia and chroman, this is a huge help! I hadn't looked at those sellers and the stones look beautiful! Not in any especial rush so I might keep browsing for a few more days to see what comes up. (I see that Select Gems might have been renamed to Gems Glorious?)

For what it's worth, I'm not sure that I've ever seen a very saturated sapphire before. Of the ones I saw in person in a store, here's the one I liked best, but it looks very different from lots of those photos. Or is e.g. the pearlmans or mastercut stone actually similar to this, just better photographed?

The stone in the photo you posted looks like it has a fair amount of gray in it.

Both the mastercut and pearlmans links look to be quite a bit more saturated, as well as the .61 from earth treasury. The other ET links also look more saturated, but a different hue.

Stones can be tough to photograph, so seeing them in person is the ultimate way to judge them.

Yes those look so beautiful! And actually oval would make a great center stone too, thinking trilogy ring and I like the shape of an oval + 2 smaller rounds

I love both the ones Chroman linked to in message 8 (from gemtrader and gem fix.) For an engagement ring, I'd gently suggest not trying to find three stones now, but focus on finding a center sapphire with a color that really resonates for you. You can always add the side stones later if you want. I like blue with yellow gold, and a lot of people here say matching your skin tone is most important. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can speak to whether it alters the stone's color, especially for blue sapphire. Congratulations!

I posted on this thread previously about a resource for heat-treated only Montana sapphires that I knew about. My post was deleted, and I'm not sure why. I am not affiliated with either Sapphires of Montana or Columbia Gemhouse. The stones I posted were within the price range and criteria that the original poster specified. What did I do wrong?

If this is inappropriate, can someone please explain to me why? I was trying to be helpful, as I know that these are very well-cut and polished gemstones with only heat treatment. I have several of them myself, and am extremely pleased with them.

Debbie: you might want to read the PS policies again, as I think they state that as a Trade member, you are not allowed to recommend other vendors, otherwise, we'd be flooded with vendors recommending people and there would be no good way for the Mods to determine who was shilling and who was real.
