This is my very 1st post....so sorry if I''m not using the correct terminology.

I''m looking to buy an engagement ring - I know I want it to be a princess cut (~1.5 carats) with bezel setting (no prongs!) and micropave around the center stone and band.
Similar to this one..... http://jameselliot-online.stores.yahoo.net/1110.html

However, I''m unsure HOW exactly I want the diamond to be secured to the band. I know that I want something minimalistic, delicate, with as much exposure of the diamond to light as possible. I want a light appearance...nothing too heavy/gaudy.

I''ve seen a lot of examples of 4 "side supports" (terminology?). One that I like..... http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=179&sessionid=f0fc70dbf619e0e77fc761d663dde927http://www.artofplatinum.com/4image...79&sessionid=f0fc70dbf619e0e77fc761d663dde927

However, I was wondering if 2 "side supports" would be safe??

I went to a jeweler and saw a design for a much smaller center stone (prob
I love this design b/c the diamond looks like it''s floating......But, I''m afraid, that this design may not be safe enough for a larger center stone (still looking for a center stone, btw, but that''s be for another thread). I''m afraid the sides of the diamond (that aren''t covered by the side supports) will be exposed, potentially leaving open areas for the diamond to get hit?!?

Can anyone out there tell me if this is a safe design? I haven''t seen anything like this on the web, which makes me wonder.....

Thx!!

Hi there! What a lovely design idea. Many people have diamonds around their rings here and they call them a "halo." If you do a search for halo a bunch of threads will come up and you might get some ideas.

As far as having only two underwires underneath the stone, it could be secure if it is well done and not super thin. I am not an expert on this though. Have you seen this ring from danhov at james allen? I think the rings can be custom ordered to fit specific stones. James allen/dirt cheap diamonds are excellent to work with as well. I bought my diamond from them.

Hey kcoursolle,

Thank you so much for the help!
The picture of the ring you posted is perfect! I''m looking for a V shape rather than a U shape, but it definitely answers my question that the 2 underwires can be done! I''ll have to see if James Allen can do that.

Thank you so much, again! Have a great wknd!

I am by no means an expert. But, I think you might have a harder time making that a V shape. It can certainly be less round or raise the diamond higher, but the problem making it a V and straighter is you lose strength in doing that. At least that is what logic tells me but perhaps some one well versed in this will chime in for you eventually. Good luck!

This is a CAD for londonblue''s ring. I have also seen rings designed like this on PS before so I assume it is alo safe. Perhaps it is better than the other picture posted?
