Safe deposit box question

Does anyone know if the only way to remove the key ensures the box is locked? They have their key that's universal for one side and I have the safe deposit box key. Both are needed to open and close the box. Freaking out because it all happened so fast and I'm not positive it is locked. I'm sure it is but I'm spinning.

It's locked. I've always had to turn the key to lock it before the key could be removed.

That is the standard way for them to operate.

Oh I never knew that you can only remove the key once it’s locked! I guess I can cut my neurotic checking/rechecking down to only 1-2x as opposed to 5-6 attempts of trying to break into my own safe deposit box to make sure it’s actually locked.

That is my understanding of how it works in the US -- don't know about elsewhere. You should be fine.
