What do you think of this ruby?

http://www.ajsgem.com/ruby/burma-ruby/burma-ruby-1.36-carats.html

I've purchased from this vendor before and been very happy with the purchases. I love the brightness of this ruby. It is described as eye clean. The vendor stated that has some fine silk when I asked about what appeared to be inclusions to me.

Then there is this one which is a deeper red and does appear to be fairly eye clean but lacks the vividness the one above has.

What do you think? Which would you choose?

Hi Suzee,

Both of the rubies you posted are very pretty, but my personal preference would be for the first. I don't think the "silk" will detract from the stone, and I rather like the flashes of pink. It looks bright and very lively. The second is a little dark for my personal taste. If you purchase one, I'd love to see real life photos.

Do we know if these rubies are treated with heat only or if flux heated/lead glass filled??

I like the second but I prefer darker stones to lighter ones.

I would wonder about the treatments also. Those seem awfully cheap for the size--but I could be way off.

Both are lovely as depicted and it's hard to choose between them - in fact I don't think I can! If you do get one please get a lab report and show us some in hand pictures.

I second Starzin!!

I love rubies, but they look so different on your hand compared to on the screen. Before I saw many IRL, I assumed I'd like the darker stoplight red ones. But, to my surprise the lighter, more pinkish ones typically from Africa looked the best on my hand!!I fell in love with this pikish one:

Also, the company you are dealing with seems to photoshop their gems a bit every now and then. I was once considering a padparadscha sapphire from them, but when I saw more photos of the stone the color was very different. Still nice, but different. Perhaps ask for more photos of these stones as a start??

Since both are from the same vendor, have you asked AJS' opinion as to the pros and cons of both stones? I agree that the first one has better saturation. The second is probably a medium dark but the richness of colour isn't there. In terms of inclusions, none have been fracture filled? Any surface reaching inclusions?

Just curious (I have been looking at colored stones on AJS also) is there a vendor you can recommend who doesn't photoshop?
Thanks.

I couldn't get to the picture of the first one, and the second one looks orangey red to me.
