I am considering a royal asscher

8.05x8.05x5.49mm
weight 2.96ct
depth68.2
table 50
girdle slightluy tick
cuulet very small
polis/ sym VG/VG
clarity VS1
Fluorescence none
laser inscribed

Is that good specs. Also, it is impossible to price these stones. Dealer wants 50,000 for the loose diamond. Is that over priced?
Please help
I am also considering a generic asscher for 54,000
8.08x 7.96x4.57
2.5 ct
D color
internallyu flawless
polish good
symmetry good
fluorescence none
extra facet

Would you choose the royal or the generic?

What color is the Royal Asscher? No matter what, $50k sounds almost suspiciously low for a VS1 2.96 carat Royal Asscher! Anyway, the specs probably aren''t even worth sorting through when it comes to Royal Asschers; shoot for the color, clarity, size, and price you want, and feel lucky when you find something close.

the RA color is D. The laser inscription was visible under a loop and they had the Gia cert. do you think the RA is a better choice than the generic flawless?

A D VS1 ~3 carat Royal Asscher for $50k??? I''ll take it if you don''t! The IF doesn''t get you much; on the other hand, the RA proportions, cut quality, and face pattern make a world of a difference.

$50K for the Royal Asscher sounds like a good deal. Would you be able to see both stones you're considering side by side? It might be easier to make your choice that way. (I just got a Royal Asscher - I would go with the Royal over the generic.)

Two different dealers. I would have to buy one and then take it to the other dealer to compare and chance that the return policy is what they say it is.

Is a table of 50 good on an RA.

A 50 table is good - these are the specs on mine:

Depth 63.9%
Table 58%
Girdle thick
Culet small
Finish:
Symmetry excellent
Polish excellent
Clarity Grade: VVS2
Color : D
Flourescence: None

What about a very small culet. I hear a stone should never have a culet according to the tiffany''s sight

I wouldn't believe that about the culet. All of the stones I bought from Tif's have culets. Also, Tif's doesn't carry Royal Asschers, so their website isn't any guide for Royals.

In fact, Royal Asscher only cuts their diamonds with culets, which are always very small and polished. It''s considered one of the 74 facets.

between those 2 id go with the Royal, bigger and less $$

It''s a no brainer. I''d take the royal asscher over the generic. They are better cut, it''s a wee bit cheaper (since you don''t need IF, VS1 is very eye clean), and a wee bit larger. All the specs on the RA is delish!

Whatever you do ... do not say which dealer has the Royal Asscher. There are thousands of lurkers around here that sometimes swipe stones right out from under those considering them.

I would not worry yourself about the culet. If you need to: arrange for the stone to be sent to an independent appraiser before the purchase. Ask them anything you want about the specs & cut.

Though I can''t imagine anything "bad" about a nearly 3ct RA (D! color!!). Pick the Royal absolutely under these circumstances.

Something else to consider is the sheer rarity of finding a well-cut 2.96 carat stone, not to mention one that's D-VS1. And they're not asking a 3 carat price...I somehow had the idea that RAs sold at a premium over "list" but this is not.

So true. I made the mistake of telling about where I was planning on buying my Royal Asscher months ago and several people called in to that vendor trying to buy it from underneath me.

Deco & Fanboy--I''m almost shocked to hear that people try to swipe diamonds out from under others around here! Not that I don''t believe you, it''s just that PS has this lovely, la-dee-dah-we-are-all-so-happy-to-help-each-other-out feeling that it feels like such betrayal to hear something like this! So sad.

Glamoria--I don''t know much about RAs, but those stones sound phenomenal to me!

Well, I guess there are plenty of lurkers. Anyway, when it comes to a $50,000 purchase, can we really expect anyone to forego an astounding deal in order to respect vague internet forum ettiquette?

Add my name to the list of people who are surprised to see a D-colored, 3-carat, Royal Asscher for $50K.

To add a different dimension to the comparative discussion, beyond the size difference of the second stone being a 1/2 carat smaller than the first, I couldn''t help but notice the polish and symmetry grades: both are "good". To me, asschers in particular are *ALL* about the precision of the cut, and though the whole D/IF thing might have its appeal, I think the so-so symmetry would be a deal-breaker.

Glamoria, since you haven''t been able to see them side by side in person, a quick search found some threads in which you might be interested:

Another RA fan here. I love the extra facets on the RA styles and I think at larger sizes it is especially more beautiful.

you guys give the best advice. I put a deposit on the RA today. Any suggestions on settings. I here trillions are horrible next to a asscher

Step-cut traps are classic and my favorite look for sides with an Asscher. There's a great photo of one like this that keeps popping up here, I think Leon Mege did it for Bill Scherlag at IceMine.

Edit: the one on the right in this photo:

I bought the royal asscher and it will be ready tomorrow. I will try to post a picture over the weekend. I designed my own setting. I curious to see what you guys think. I used step traps and pave.

I can''t wait for the pics!! Congrats on the ring, I nearly drooled when I read the specs on the RA and am really glad you went with it over the generic asscher (and I''m a generic asscher owner). I''m sure it''s gorgeous!!!

Geez, Elmo... thanks for raising my aesthetic bar. Those pieces are exquisite...

Sometimes I wish I''d never found this site!
