Hi,

I'm looking for a round, excellent to ideal cut diamond with J+ color and SI1+ clarity. My budget is $15,000 all in (including a thin, platinum, solitaire setting).

I'd like to get as many carats as possible in my price range with the most brilliance, fire and scintillation (who wouldn't). My understanding is that the cut is going to be most important here, so I'd be willing to go down to a K | SI2 as long as it is eye clean.

Anyone have any suggestions on where I should start? I've reached out to local jewelers in Chicago; however, I'm considering purchasing the stone online. What can I reasonably expect?

Also, any good local Chicago Jeweler recommendations always appreciated.

Thanks!

Since you are looking to get a platinum setting, you'll need to set aside $1.5k - $2k just for that alone so here are a couple of other suggestions to keep you in budget:

1. J, SI1, 2.15ct, 8.31-8.28x5.08mm, rates .6 on HCA, $13,195 (bank wire).

2. J, SI1, 2.06ct, 8.26-8.29x4.99mm, rates 1.0 on HCA, $12,705 (bank wire).

Because the above are SI1, you'll need to ask vendor to see if they are eye-clean.

It does say she will sell it loose for $14,800! Just make sure it's eye clean.
Good luck and keep us posted!

This will likely put you over budget, but you can talk to enchanted about what they have for platinum bands and what kind of price you could work out. It is very big and has inclusions that are very hard to see in the video and would be easy to cover with prongs from the looks of it. I believe, from looking at the video, that this J color has more of a brownish undertone than a yellow one, which some prefer and some don't. It sure is big though and the cut looks good.
