Hey all.

Diving into the diamond world and been doing my research.. phew there's a lot!

I know she wants a square single halo setting with thin band, pretty much like this:

Just trying to decide if I should go with a cushion or round for the main diamond?

Doing my research it seems cushions are a lot harder to shop for (especially online). And also the fact that they face up smaller than a similar weighted round. But would a square cushion look better in a square halo? Let me know what you guys think?

Thanks!

Rounds are much easier to select by the numbers, and they're more plentiful. They also generally have more scintillation (sparkle/twinkle) than cushions.

The picture you oist d is a round in a cushion shaped setting.

Does your intended have a Pinterest board to see what her "theme" is?

Ya I just took that picture off Brilliant Earth. Was switching between round and square to see what the difference would like like in their "ring creator".

Yes she has a pinterest board. The square/cushion ones she has pinned are moissanite, don't think she really knew what that meant and just liked the look of the settings. She has also pinned a few round halos but I think I like the square more personally.

Yes, there are heaps of rounds about. If she prefers the more square shape, you can still use a round diamond as the centre, the maker will just alter the halo to make it square looking.

I personally love a round in a square halo. The best of both worlds. If sometime in the future she decides to reset the diamond in a solitare she will have a very classic look.

If she's pinned both round and cushion, she likes curves. I'd stick with a curved halo. As round are much easier to find, I concur with going for a round. When you are ready, you can post a budget for a diamond and your 'wants' and we can help you search.

Great thanks!

FYI, BE is not Brilliant Earth
BE is Brilliantly Engaged, who is a PS vendor.

Please correct me if wrong, Brilliant Earth has a similar name, but not a PS vendor

Ahhh haha okay good to know thanks!

I like rounds in cushion shaped halos...sort of the best of both worlds. You get excellent light return with an ideal cut round but
you get a nice cushion shape to look at from the halo.

My halo is a round in cushion-y halo - I had so much more confidence shopping for it than I would have with an actual cushion-cut diamond!

Round center stone with cushion halo = best of both worlds IMO =)2 I also prefer a cushion setting over a square setting for the soft corners, but still squarish looking. Echoing others thoughts on round brilliants being easier to select using HCA calculator.

We just purchased ours from James Allen and it's arriving today -- can't wait!! If you go on their website on your mobile phone, you take a photo of your hand and "try on" the ring on your hand and save pictures of it to compare. I was debating between a round vs. cushion halo setting and ultimately decided on the cushion because I preferred the look of the cushion on my hand.

An then there are those that prefer the round stone and round halo.
To each his own.

That's what we were debating on - round stone with round halo, or round stone with square/cushion halo and ultimately decided on the latter. All a matter of personal pref =)2 Although, I wouldn't mind either as I love all halos!

Looking forward to seeing the ring in real life also. Hope it looks even better in person than in pictures! :mrgreen2:

Here it is! Pictures don’t do the sparkles any justice :kiss2:

Still getting the hang of taking pictures of the ring on my hand. Will post more angles of it in the daytime!

Having a cushion in a cushion halo (and mine being an 8-Main is as close to a round brilliant cut for scintillation I could get in a cushion), I would now recommend a round in a cushion halo. As others said, the numbers, ASETs, etc will be much easier to judge when selecting the stone and it will have a very similar look.
