Hi all,

I've located a diamond I am interested in purchasing and wanted to get your thoughts on it before I pull the trigger. Here are the specs and the Idealscope image.

Carat weight: 1.66
Color: D
Clarity: VS1
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
L/W/D: 7.62 x 7.68 x 4.66
Depth: 60.9%
Table: 56.0%
Crown: 34 degrees
Pavillion: 40.8 degrees
Inclusions: small crystal and needle off table; eye clean

Are there any reasons I should be concerned about this diamond or keep looking?

Thanks!

Scores .9 on the HCA and the IS looks good. Is there some reason for choosing D color? You could drop down as low as G and still have a nice white stone that could be larger...although that may not interest you.

I would be totally fine with an E or F color, but I was mainly searching out diamonds that fit the following criteria and this one popped up:

Carats: 1.65-1.75
Color: D-F
Clarity: VVS2-VS1
Cut: Excellent (Less than 2.0 on the HCA scale)
Depth: less than 62
Table: less than 58
Fluorescence: None

I found a couple others on Blue Nile, but since I'm buying online it'd be great to see actual pictures of the diamond/idealscope images before buying. I found another on the same website as the diamond above, and it's an E and slightly larger at 1.71, scores 1.4 on the HCA, and it's approximately $1,100 cheaper. It does have faint fluorescence, though.

Faint fluor is nothing to worry about.

Show us the E stone. That one doesn't show the best cut precision and I think you could do better. If I was paying for a colorless stone, I'd also want the best cut. Just so you know, a .9 HCA score is not better than 1.4. The other stone might be better cut. You are definitely wise in only considering stones with images.

Thanks for the feedback and I will pass on this one. I will have to request the Idealscope from the diamond seller for the E stone.

Are there websites that I should be using that include the Idealscope images? Should I only go with sellers who offer one of these advanced images or can I tell anything from the simple magnified image of the diamond? Lastly, what should I be looking for when evaluating an Idealscope image (what would I have noticed in the D stone above that would make me want to pass on this one?).

Thanks again!

Here is another diamond I saw this morning with a couple images below. Any causes for concern here?

The GIA report also shows tiny little pinpoints scattered throughout the top of the crown. Should I be concerned there are so many?

Okay, we can scratch the one above. I'm not really liking what I'm seeing from the arrows image.
