In need of some input to narrow down my options. Thanks to reading this forum over the past couple of months I feel like I have picked up a decent amount of knowledge. I have tried to only select stones where GIA and AGS both grade the cut angles as complementary and have sub 2 HCA score. Before trying to get photos and ASETs on them wanting to ask if other items I should consider or how others would rank them. If you would reject any or rank them a certain way if you could also tell me why would much appreciate it. While I’ll be happy to get this stone bought it has been quite interesting to explore all the data points, props to this community for helping me learn. And Happy New Year.

For reference trying to stay under 8k, VS2-VS1, H-G, weight 1.2+ (6.8-7.2mm tolerance for the ring I have picked)

Stone A - 1.2 HCA

I wont pick a stone that doesnt have real images.

A) 60/60 stone, with low crown and appropriate high pavilion ...I'm just not a fan of this stone but some people do have 60/60
stones and do really like them

B) No images

C) This is probably my favorite but I tend to lean towards higher crowns. Does have some slight leakage between 9-10oclock
that you can see in the aset/ideal scope

D) No images

E) No images

F) Another 60/60 stone...same comments as stone A

Lets see if we can get @flyingpig and @Karl_K to comment. Or, anyone else who wants to give their opinions of course!

Agree with @tyty333
Not much to add.
Some decent choices, not impressive

It is going to be hard to find a good diamond around this time. What you are finding now is leftover from Black Friday and Christmas times that nobody bothered to take.. Keep trying. You may see some good ones showing up in early-mid Jan before Valentines. If you find one, yoi gotta act quickly.

Some twist in the pavilion that is probably visible face up in some lighting.
Not a fan.
Nothing wrong with 60/60 when well cut and not flat tops.

Otherwise ditto your comments.

I’m no expert - but the people on this site are. consider if you want an upgrade policy. I found this stone-but others will need to weigh in on it. F9CA72C4-F954-4F42-B833-734016ED1B51.png

There are a few H, VS2 on the VC website that you might want to take a look at. They are slightly out of budget, but it couldn‘t hurt to ask if they could be discounted. Also, did you check WF?

I agree with others. I wouldn't buy a stone sight unseen and dont love the other choices for the same reason as @tyty333

Thanks all for the comments. I went back to the vendor and asked for photos of the missing ones. I will add them when they arrive, see if that changes the math on them. It is sounding like the consensus is these stones are okay but not great. My timeline does allow me to wait so I’ll hope the next few weeks bring some better options. I’ll keep looking and post any new ones I find, if someone does stumble across one that looks like a winner would appreciate sending it my way.

Hi All,

Been on the lookout per @flyingpig suggestion that some good options might pop up this time of year. To my eyes still kind of slim pickings but did find this one that seems like a pretty good stone. I can see some light leakage in the ASET but I'm clueless as to how you would grade that and if those shortcoming would be noticeable by a non expect, @Karl_K . With the stone being listed in India does that add new layer of complexity?

Stone G - 1.6 HCA

As always thanks in advance for everyone's advice.

Got the report, looks very nice. Grabs 1.3 HCA, EX all around less for spread.
Put this on hold and ask for the report.

1.31 GIA Report - James Allen.jpeg

For Stone G (I thought it sold but has popped back up at some dealers) when comparing and contrasting against this James Allen how would they rate?

Like the spread and slightly cheaper price on stone G.
The Table and Depth of this James Allen sound like it might put out more light. Are people generally able to tell the difference between when comparing a HCA 1.6 to a 1.3?

The 1.31c from JA should be at least equal in cut in comparison with the stone G.

I particularly like the 1.20c from JA.

But the stone G is very attractive if you can get it for $7.4k
