Hi everyone!

This is my first time posting on pricescope, I hope I'm posting in the right section. My boyfriend and I have been ring shopping for the past couple of months. We haven't had much luck looking at the jewelers in our area. I've had my heart set on getting an engraved, antique feel ring and they're harder to find (in store anyways!) than what I thought they'd be. I saw a thread on pricescope about Brian Gavin and instantly fell in love with a ring I saw on their website. With further googling I found a thread on here of someone's actual pictures of this ring too and loved it even more!

So now we're on to diamond researching! I always thought I would get a round diamond, but I've seen several cushion cuts lately that I've loved! I know for sure that I don't want a princess cut.

So what do YOU think?? Round or cushion cut? :)

I think either would be lovely. That being said, are you more a traditional round kind of girl or would you rather have something a little more unique, a cushion?

Trust your gut

Welcome! I really like that setting as well! I don't think you can go wrong with either one, but I think cushions or old european cuts look best in the antique style settings. Good Old Gold carries beautiful August Vintage )oec) rounds and cushions. Here is a thread so you can look at a variety and see what you think:

The also carry Beverley K and some other brands of antique style settings. This is one of my favorites:

I am actually considering switching from a traditional round to one of these now!

I think you should go out and try on both shapes and see which you prefer on your hand.

There are A TON of beautiful rings out there... you need to see which shape looks best on your hand, and the best way to do that is to go and look.

Tiffany has the Novo Cushions and lots of rounds you can try on. So I would go there and see what shape you like best. Once you've figured that out... we can help you find the best ring for you!

Thanks everyone! We have gone to a few jewelers and I tried on a lot of rings but at the time I was more concentrated on the settings of the rings and not the shape of the diamonds. I just always assumed I would get a round, but now that I've found the ring that I love I've been thinking how nice it would look with a cushion cut!

My boyfriend is glad I've found a setting I love, but now really wants to pick out the diamond himself. I think we're trying to keep the budget at around $5,000.. I realize that rounds face up larger than the cushion cut, so I'm factoring that into the decision. I'm a size 5 and I think that the 1 carat round looked pretty good on me.. Ahhhh.. tough decisions...

if you like both shapes, then i'd suggest to go for the round for bigger finger coverage :rodent:

Very seriously, don't let him pick out a diamond unless you send him here!!!! Because your typical jeweler does NOT carry the cut quality of the diamonds that the vendors here do! Plus they certainly won't have a selection of old style cut cushions! In reality, you two just need to choose the stone together.
