Unfortunately this isn't a well cut stone. What are your size, color, budget preferences?

Even I guessed the same, what's all the dark around the base of the arrows?

OP, do NOT feel bad, this is intended to encourage you. I'm trying to learn as well.
You should see the gravel I was picking up 8 years ago.

Thanks for the quick feedback. This is all new to me so appreciate the advice. There's a video of the diamond in the link if that helps as well. I was just going off the cut, color and clarity of the IGI report so figured it was good. I'm hoping to find a round brilliant diamond around $1500 with excellent cut, VS1 clarity and F color around 1.5 carots but willing to go a little smaller.

I would read the "education" section of PS for more info about what goes into a well cut stone. Unfortunately "excellent" on a report is too broad

Darkness at the base of the arrows is leakage

Your size preference and budget allow a lot of options. Here are some I like:

I personally like gcal 8x when affordable because it's a peace of mind thing for me to know that the cut meets a bunch of minimum standards.

These are great suggestions, thank you! I see what you guys are saying about the dark areas around the base of the arrows now compared to the ones in lovedogs post. I'm working with a local jeweler so I will ask him to show me some additional diamonds.

I spoke to my jeweler and he told me that you cannot trust that pictures online are accurate. I'm planning to visit tomorrow to look in person. I'll be looking for light leakage on the diamond itself. Any tips for what else to look for? I looked at the education section of this site and found some useful tips too, thank you!

Haha, unfortunately your local jeweler is trying to scare you out of buying online. He or she can't source the same quality for the price, so instead they are attempting to scare you into buying from them (which will be a worse stone and/or a higher price). Obviously there are shady websites, but every stone linked above is exactly what you'd get if you purchased it

If you were to bring an Ideal and or ASET scope that would help. Your local jeweler may/should have them.

Great tip! I was looking at the loose diamonds search tool on this site and found that my jeweler is one of the preferred vendors (Continental Diamond), so hopefully they have these tools in house they can show me.

Most diamonds looks very sparkly and pretty especially to people less familiar with diamonds. It is fine to view diamonds in person… preferred even! But be sure you have a range of stones to compare. If you just look at this diamond on its own then you likely won’t notice the issues we see. Only compared to a more precisely cut stone will they show up (most likely… maybe you won’t even see it!)

Do you think this is a good diamond based on the details below? Based on my research this looks pretty good, but wanted to ask in case I am missing something.

I am not loving these proportions either just for the record. Wimpy arrows, large table, steep-ish pavilion, darkness between arrow base. It is a nicely cut stone (there are real dogs out there) but not the best or even the style I prefer.

Ask if they have lab diamonds equal to their Legacy Diamonds.

Agreed. It's not the best but its not awful. IF you're working w continental diamonds, ask about their "legacy" collection. These are true super ideal cuts

Lol jinx!

I was there today and asked about the legacy collection. Unfortunately it’s just for natural diamonds. He showed me another diamond but based on the HCA score it was worse than the original one. I’m going to search online based on your advice and information I’ve learned from this site. It seems like looking at 8x gcal and sticking with recommended proportions should be a safe bet. Do you agree?

Yup, 8x is super safe! You can also post here and we can double check.

Another thought
A little too big (if there is such a thing) but the specs hit a sweet spot and fat arrows

Isn't Wink with Continental Diamonds now?

Isn't Wink with Continental Diamonds now?

I was with them for a while. They were friends and competitors for more than thirty years. I enjoyed working with them, but I left as my heart is no longer really in the jewelry business. I loved it for many years, but losing Resa, my wife and the love of my life for fifty years, took a lot out of me.

I am now spending my time taking my camera from one place of beauty to another.

I will say the fine folks at Continental Diamonds are devoted to what they do. The 8X diamonds will cost more than the IGI certed diamonds, primarily because the cut requirement for the 8X is much tighter than the requirements for the ideal cut IGI reports. The prices have fallen so far so quickly, that paying more for the 8X report is what I would do if I wanted the best looking diamond for my lady. Just like the AGS reports used to cost more for the natural diamonds than the GIA excellent, the price for the beauty was always a great value!

Always wishing you the best, Wink. So deeply sorry for your loss. I think about you often and always send you best wishes/thoughts/vibes

I would expect nothing else from you. You have always been a kind lady and I have great respect for you.

There are so many kind people here, it is why I come back so often and try to share when I can.

I found a few that look pretty good on Adiamor. Do any of these standout to you?

I am no expert and you should Ignore me because I'm probably wrong and will be corrected, but...
If you look at the spin video of the 1.59ct its dark at the base of the arrows.
Now click on the "Arrow" picture on the cert and you will see diminished light return (pink) in the same area. I think they all have issues.
Look at this stone and it show less darkness in those areas
**** I'm thick skinned, let me have it ****

Thanks for the feedback, I ended up going with the 1.59 carat anyway. I've been going back and forth between images of these diamonds the last few days and finally just had to make a decision. From what I can see no diamond is perfect and the price was right on this one! Thanks again all for your help.

I'm glad you didn't listen to me. My wife never does and she's very happy. I'm sure you will be too.
