im not quite sure what i want to do in this situation and any help would be appreciated. im trying to decide between these 3 diamonds which are 1.53ct H SI1, 1.53ct I VS1, or 1.40ct G SI1. they are all gonna be Signature Ideal Cut, NONE Fluroscence, Excellent polish & symmetry and will have a square diamond setting. i want to stay around the 1.5 ct range but since its a halo setting, is it worth it to go down in the carat and then upgrade in the color department? should i be caring about clarity or color more in this situation? the side stones will probably be set in the same color as the main stone . i want to stay in my budget so those stones are all i can afford right now. please any help. thanks!

Can you show us a picture of the setting? I am not quite understand a square halo with a round stone.

But to answer your question, I'd go with the 1.5 H SI1 if they can tell you it is eyeclean.

eyeclean meaning i cant see any inclusions with the naked eye?

Yes.

I am glad that is a cushion style halo and not square! I also like cushion halos! My only qualm is that BN's stock settings like this just don't have very good quality diamonds in them. It says I SI2 and good cut. I am just not wild about the price on that ring with that quality of diamonds in it. I'd probably go for a nicer quality setting.

And I do agree that with a halo it would be fine to even go to a 7mm (1.25-1.3 ct.) diamond. I guess it all depends on your budget.

yeh i didnt plan on gettin the setting there cause i would like my side stones to be better quality but thats the setting she wants. just wondering why u chose the H over the G? is it the carat size or is it because u cant tell a diff between the 2 colors because of there superior cut??

also what depth, table and girdle should i be looking for? i have no idea how that effects the diamond. could u please school me on that info as well? also if there are small cloud, feather etc inclusions on the top face of the diamond, is that ok?

There are many combinations that will make a nice diamond so don't rule out a stone that is slightly out of this range. But this rule of thumb rarely fails.

table: 54-58

depth: 60.0-62.3 (although I try to stay above 62.0 as deeper stones may have a smaller diameter)

crown angle: 34-35.0

pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

girdle: thin, medium, slightly thick or combo of two of those

As far as clarity goes, this is when you need a vendor who has the stones in-house and can inspect how eyeclean they are for you. VS1 and higher are always safe but you always need to ask about VS2 and lower. Some VS2's are eyeclean from the top and not the sides, so the setting you choose makes a difference. A halo covers the sides so that helps!

Any vendor can order a cushion halo and you can surely get one with better quality diamonds.
