You''re probably better off taking your stones to a gemologist, and paying for a detailed appraisal. A lot of providing an appraisal involves tests using microscopes and spectroscopes, and they need to see the stones or minerals in person for that.

Alot of it depends on what you want to do with the stones. The picture you posted might be suitable for cabbing but is certainly not facet grade. Is it emerald?

I am a cutter (and there are several others here as well, most with far more experience than I) so I am reasonably good at determining if a stone can be faceted. I can''t offer much in the way of values but I can probably give you a good idea of the cutting suitability for a given stone.

thank you for the advise =]

sorry i also dont know what kind of stone it is. im starting in this rough gemstone business and my biggest problem is that what price a particular stone can be sold.
some say its jade, some say its silicate. it contains 45% silicate,11% potassium and 24% aluminum etc. or maybe this is new kind of stone species that never been found before. thank u

Without some idea of what type of stone it is and its relative quality, it is essentially worthless. You have to know exactly what you are dealing with to make an honest presentation to a buyer. Your main goal should be to maintain your integrity at any cost. That is the primary consideration in the gem and rough business. People have to know thay can trust you no matter the circumstance and that they are going to get exactly what was paid for and promised or more.

This is not a business to enter lightly. It takes time to build confidence and a client base, time to find trustworthy suppliers and a good deal of money for inventory, testing, equipment, travel, etc.

Good luck in your venture.

Well said Jeff.

yes i agree. integrity is essentiale in any business at all time. thanks
