I have been offered a rough diamond which purports to be detailed as follows:-
52.45 ct - Colour ''D'' - IF , and the asking price is $440 per carat.
I have only really ever dealt with some small cut diamonds so have no real chance of evaluating this stone.
My question is this - can the colour and clarity of a stone be established if the stone is ''ROUGH''?
Also, how realistic does the price seem to be - it is being offered direct from source in Namibia.

Ditto Neil.

And, you clearly don''t know much about diamonds, so I have to ask, why would you even be considering buying rough??

That is a scam for sure. A rough diamond that size could go for $40000-$60000 per carat depending on rough shape. Plus Namibia''s diamonds are heavily regulated by the government and only large companies are able to get licenses to buy, sell, and export.
