Hi everyone,

As my boyfriend''s and my quest for a ring continues, we''ve decided that we''ll probably be getting a J colored diamond (YAY!) and have inquired about a few with JA.

I''ve done some searches on the forum and noticed some awesome looking rose gold settings...as much as I love it, though, I''m not sure.

What''s your opinion on pairing the pink/orange with the warmer white of the J? Would it make the diamond look more yellow? I know a J won''t look like a D, but I think I''d like to maximize the warm white look of the stone.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions of places to look for a fairly inexpensive rose gold settings? The plan is to get my ring reset into a Maevona (also a RG-friendly designer) eventually. I really love this JA setting, but it''s not listed as available in RG:

Timeless setting

This one is the only one I could find in rose gold, and I''m not sure I love it (though someone has it in WG or platinum on here and hers is gorgeous):

Flat Tab setting

I''m definitely a solitaire girl :)

Thanks for all your help!

~Shana :)

I think both settings are beautiful, but I seem to prefer the timeless a little more though. I think Rose Gold will look stunning, J still faces up quite white more of an antique white. I don't think metal color choice will make it "more" yellow at all. I am sure you can call JA to request the timeless in RG metal color. I think I've seen that setting done in Green Gold once before in the color forum, but i might be wrong

so I would suspect it can also be done in rose gold as well.

Hi, Shana--

Talk to JA. It''s possible they might be able to make the setting in rose gold even if it''s not listed.

I think a J would look lovely in rose gold. Why not look around for a local jeweler who carries rose gold settings and drop the diamond in one and see how you like the look?

Before I decided to go bezel, both of those were settings I had on my short list! I''m sure they could do the Timeless in rose gold. Someone in Colored Stones has it with green gold head and white gold shank..I think. I''m pretty sure it''s MommaChristine..it''s a Mali garnet I think. It''s soo pretty. Let me find a link.

You''re awesome! I found that post

Timeless

And it''s GORGEOUS ... but I know from experience that that type of band won''t sit well on my finger. Dang. I love the bezel.

It was so easy to say yes to my guy(!) and to find some intriguing diamonds ... but I''m like paralyzed with indecision about the setting.

The problem with both of those is that there will be a pretty big gap between the e-ring and the wedding ring because of the way these are made. The gap may not bother you, but the wedding ring may rub against the prongs of the e-ring.

Oooh, prong rubbing is a bad thing.

Maybe the basic Tiffany setting is better, then ...

To be honest, I''m being a pick-a-doodle b/c I can''t find anything else I love as much as the first setting I tried on. But $1650 for WG is unreasonable on our budget -- it''s like a third of it.

Shana,
Have you picked out your J colored diamond yet from JA? If you're looking for a round I may be returning a 1.21 J heart and arrows round ags 000 that I purchased from James Allen for 4500. If I return it I'd like to see it go to a pricescope member and it seems like that would be what you're looking for. Let me know if you haven't picked out your diamond yet.

Right now, Boyfriend''s waiting for specs on a few from JA -- we picked four, Darin told us that three of them were good, so we''re waiting on Idealscope images and Sarins, I think? I can''t remember. Probably shouldn''t have stayed up so late watching the Giants-Cowboys game!

So we haven''t picked, per se ... :)

I don't want to brag or anything but I think at that price the 1.21 J I purchased was the best or at the least at the very top of what they have(assuming you want a round). I got lucky finding it. Here is the link containing the idealscope and hearts images:

Is it something you would be interested in? I'm not trying to sell it to you directly or make any money. I'd just like to see it go to someone who would really appreciate it and a fellow pricescope member should I return it. Let me know. thanks.

That is one h-e-double-hockey-sticks of a stone, b5s4. I saw your other thread though, and I''m so sorry for your situation.

Are you sure you want to return it? It might be worth keeping and then upgrading in future. Think of the amazing stone you could get that way!

I too was and maybe still am looking at a rose gold solitaire for a warmer K/L color ring. I think I have decided to just do platinum or white gold cause it''s more classic and I am afraid I will regret it. I think with warmer colors though it will look so great and if you want something different, that will definitely stand out. I really like rose gold on lighter/medium light skin tones too. Another reason I didn''t do it is mine is pretty dark and I thought the color would look washed out. Here is a pic of an antique (so maybe not well cut) J colored stone in rose gold.

Also, I am a setting person as well and my dream setting is bit expensive, a little over 25% of the cost but I totally think it is worth it. If the Mae vona one is the one you dream about, I would get it but that''s just me.

I love that setting!!!! What is it???

Maybe JA would do their classic 4-prong Tiffany with a RG shank and a WG head -- we''re going to get an initial setting from them, if we go with them for the stone, so that we can get it insured before eventually resetting with another jeweler.

25 percent I could stomach ... but 33 percent is just too much, given that the budget -- although extremely generous -- is not limitless.

that is the Lotus ring by Sally at Hearts of Water Etsy in Thailand. verrrryyy reasonable price if you just want a temporary setting. very dainty

It''s gorgeous, but my boyfriend will never go for sending it to Thailand to be set.

I love Sally''s stuff, though. I''ll have to get a gemstone for her to set :)

hehehe... I know what you mean, I have sent a couple of gemstones to her, to put in one of her lotus setting, and I just sent over a diamond band to get reworked on... luckily I have insurance on the diamond band just in case... (knock on wood)

Oooh ... I bet a rhodolite garnet would look amazing in that rose gold setting ... must start searching

But back to the issue at hand, I guess I have a few options

~WG Flat Tab setting

~Classic 4-prong Tiffany with WG head and RG band (if JA will do it and if they''ll shave the prongs down a bit -- they look bulky), or all WG

I wish I could get the Timeless setting to work for me, but I just can''t get past the bulkiness of the shank at the edges of the finger

I''ll second that, and motion carried :)

But think about what I said, b5s4 ... if you can trade in and upgrade later, maybe it''s better to keep it? It''s that much more for that much less money later

Thanks. Actually, James Allen doesn''t have the greatest upgrade policy. I would have to spend another 4500 in order to upgrade the stone. If this is a stone you would seriously be interested in, let me know.

A rose gold ring sounds pretty. I think rose gold is really cool looking. I''m not sure I would pick it myself, but if you like it then go for it.

I hope that jaylex doesn''t mind me posting her ring to your thread. This is her thread about her engagement ring:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/girls-i-dont-think-i-can-be-list-keeper-anymore.125048/page-2

Her diamond is an I, VVS2, .81carat in 18k rose gold. She got the setting custom done by Jareds and it only cost her, I believe, less than $650. And any w-band would sit flush with it. As you can see in her pictures, her diamond looks very white even in a rose gold setting and an I is only one color off from your desired J. Good luck on your hunt!

OMG, Luckyeshe, I totally saw that and then totally forgot about it ... which is utterly ridiculous of me b/c I <3 it. Thank you!

I''ve gotten crazy obsessive about this, mainly b/c we''ve been having trouble in our search (long story not worth repeating), and the longer I have to think, the more ideas I have. But at this point we''re definitely going with JA or with a local jeweler in DC with whom we really connected.

b5s4 -- thank you so much for your generous offer. I think we''d definitely consider it with our other picks if we go with JA. :)
