Rose gold alloys

I'm wondering if any of you experts can answer a question about rose gold. I really love rose gold, but many, or probably most, alloys are too red and dark for my liking. I found a couple pictures of the shade I like. One is a watch from tumblr so no info about it, and the other is a picture from VCA's website, which looks like the perfect color, but then the pages of actual rings from VCA look too coppery.

In reading, it seems there is "pink gold" which has silver or platinum added to decrease some of the coppery gold color.

Anybody know more about alloys and where I could find more light pink gold?

There are many threads on this topic. If anyone knows of a specific vendor who uses an alloy very light on copper I hope that he will chime in and tell you about that vendor. There is no scientific or metallurgical definition of, "pink gold" as opposed to "rose gold" or "red gold" that is universally accepted, however, so you will find that the alloys vary from place to place and vendor to vendor.

What piece or pieces of jewelry are you looking for in a light rose gold? Maybe knowing that would help others to help you find the right gold vendors/goldsmiths for your needs.

I am going to attach a recent thread about red/rose/pink golds.

I could be wrong but I think you watch you posted isn't actually rose/ pink gold but a plated stainless steel watch. As mentioned rose gold will vary by vendor etc due to the mixing of metals. Have you looked at unplated white gold perhaps? My unplated white gold ring has a pinky hue to it that I absolutely love. Of course I can't find a good picture of it, but here is Yssie's old 5 stone ring in unplated WG by VC. Mine was by SK and it was a few shades pinker to my eye.

I never saw that before, SB. That is truly lovely!!! I bet yours is equally stunning. Post a photo soon...please!!!

There are many, many threads on colored gold archived on Pricescope, but I thought that this one on Swedish gold was particularly interesting. It isn't as much on point as SB's information about white gold. (I suspect she hit the nail on the head with her insight into how one gets a very pale pink gold.) However, it is interesting for people who want to read more about colored gold.

I agree that the watch is probably plated stainless steel, so not a real RG alloy. If you look at the lighting in that picture you can guess that it's probably darker irl than in the pic anyway.

I haven't seen any truly light rose gold alloys. All the light ones of the color I think you're wanting have been not-gold mystery metals. I guess there could be a light rosy gold alloy but I've never seen it.

I never noticed how pink it looked in VC's photo! IRL I've never seen any pink in this ring - it's always a beautiful pale yellow.
My DBL palladium-WG does look pinkish to me in *some* lights - a steely, "colder" sort of pink.
I also have a plain band from e-WB that's a "warmer" pinkish-yellow. I put it down to the copper: [75% Fine Gold] [16.5% Copper] [4.5% Zinc] [4% Nickel]
Neither are actually PINK or peachy though, not like rose gold would be - they just hint at pink in some types of lighting.

The DBL is (G), this pic shows as pink as it gets:

The plain band is (C), and (A) is 14k RG:

Awwww interesting Yssie. I just assumed your unplated WG was similar to the VC picture. Mine definitely has a pink hue to it in RL. I will try to find some pictures showing it

Thanks, Yssie. I might have "run out" and bought any unplated white gold piece sight unseen from the Internet the way I was feeling after seeing that photo! Now I will just drool and try to wipe away the saliva in as ladylike a way as I can, but not push the, "buy" button looking for pale pink gold among unplated white. Unless I see SB's piece, of course.

Your ring is stunning!
