Hi all!

I haven't been on in a very long time, but I'm back to humbly ask for some pricescoper expertise! I bought a parcel of rose cut ovals from the former JbEG several years back... and I'm finally getting them set! The problem is, there aren't many rose cut ovals out there to compare to.

David Klass has the stones and will be setting them, but I need to choose a design first! I drew up some designs (see below), but I'm having a hard time envisioning which will look best. Please sound off with your opinions of these designs, or let me know if you think something else would look better!

I am thinking of setting in 18k yellow gold because the ovals are lower colored, and I was thinking bezel-set to protect the girdles, but again, I'm open!

I think I'm leaning towards option 1, 3 or 5

Thanks in advance for your opinions :geek:

BUMP!

Here's a photo of a ring with rose cuts that David did recently

Oh, those are just beautiful! I'm all about design #5. They're all fantastic, but I feel like #5 is both the most dynamic and the least likely to draw attention to the variations in the shape of the ovals. I can't wait to see what you go with!

Thanks! David wrote back to me and he thinks #5 is the best option too. He sent me this CAD and I really like it. He said that he will work on getting the metal thinner. I do think the prongs look a bit clunky.

I like the design DK did. I think it is more interesting than the other designs. You're doing milgrain
on the rose cuts right? I wonder if he could do you a CAD with the small diamonds bezel set
(like the picture of the ring you posted).

Yes, I am doing milgrain. I think I would like to see a CAD with the small diamonds bezel set also! I will ask him. I'm in absolutely no rush to get this done, so he can take as long as he likes. I've had the stones sitting in a box since 2012!

I would set the large oval E/W in the middle and the smaller ones tilted on each side. Lovely rose cuts...very exciting project!

Lovely stones! I like the direction you're going in - looking forward to seeing the finished ring!

Exciting project! I like David's CADs, agree that bezels around the small stones may look better than the prongs.

Here is the CAD with bezels:

Unfortunately he said he can't get OECs for this project, but said he can get single cut stones. Does anyone have an opinion on whether I should hold out for vintage stones?

I think it looks nice and would actually prefer single cuts. I will however be the bad person and say that I prefer design 1 or 4 over this one, I think they better compliment the older style of the stones. But if you prefer a more contemporary look you should absolutely go for this design.

What do you think of the bezel set vs. the prong set? I cant say which one I like better...I just cant
decide. I went and looked at the Bluenile Garland ring...prong set. It is very pretty. I dont know
if the bezel set ovals with the prong set diamonds shows more interest or if the all bezels set shows
more continuity.

I am having such a tough time deciding! I am leaning towards bezels, but only because I have scratched my son a few times with the prongs of my engagement ring. Looks-wise... I just don't know what I prefer!

I think I want to do 18k yellow gold with a satin/brushed finish and milgrain.... but I also love rose gold and unplated white gold. So many decisions, and it's extra-hard because there is nothing out there that I can compare it to!
I keep looking at the details of this ring:

I've gone back and forth a few times. I do love antique style jewelry. My engagement ring is covered with hand-engraving and filigree. However, I worry about setting rose cuts in a straight line because they're not perfectly matched. I'm not sure if that would give character or just emphasize the "flaws".

Oopsies! I meant to reply to you
