Rings Rubbing Against Each Other - A Problem?!

I don't have a huge amount of knowledge of the different metals and everything, but I'll try my best to explain my situation. I just got married two days ago, and I have been wearing my wedding band with my engagement ring.

They're both made of platinum, although most likely not the same alloy. If I look closely at them, I can see that they are slightly different colors, and my engagement ring was set with an in-house mounting at my jeweler's, while my wedding band was made by a designer. Both are stamped with 'plat', but they appear to be slightly different. It doesn't bother me because it's such a slight difference, but I'm not sure whether or not the difference could cause them to scratch each other.

My engagement ring is a Tiffany-style solitaire (2.2 carat princess cut with v-prongs), and it has rounded edges. My wedding band is more flat, and it is a half eternity with channel set princess cut diamonds (0.3 total carat weight, I believe). Since the diamonds of the wedding band aren't exposed, I didn't think that I'd have a problem.

I looked at my engagement ring last night, and it looks like it has scuff marks where the wedding band rests against it It's possible that these marks were there before, but I'm really not sure. I just don't want to wear down the metal in either band.

I guess my questions are: do these two types of bands create any sort of problem when they are worn together? Could they wear each other down over time? And also, if the scuff marks/scratches are caused by the wedding ring and the engagement ring rubbing together, can they just be polished out a couple of times per year when I bring them to my jeweler for inspection and polishing?

If this will be a problem, I'm not sure what to do. I've heard of spacers, but I'm not sure exactly what they're made of or how they help. To be honest, I really prefer the look of just my wedding band and engagement ring together, so I'm really hoping that they'll be ok by themselves. I have also considering soldering, but I want the option of wearing them alone sometimes, too.

Hi- I also have a flat half eternity wedding ring and found that the sharp edge has started to eat away at my trellis three stone ring. I do have a spacer- a .75mm ring that is very thin and discreet.

Would it be ok for me to get a platinum spacer, or would it also cause the same problems with wearing down my rings as it rubs against them? If I were to get gold (I see that yours is rose gold) would that work? Would one metal cause wear on the other? I think I've heard that I shouldn't pair platinum and gold together, but I can't remember which one would wear the other down.

Platinum will wear down the gold; get a platinum spacer for your rings.
