So I am on vacation in Iceland and we decided to take a ferry over to an island to go for a hike.

Pre hike we make a stop in "the oldest building in Iceland" to use the facilities and get some hot chocolate.

I'm in the basement of this nearly 300 year old building dealing with nature when I feel my wedding rings slip off of my freezing cold finger.

They fell straight into the toilet. I freaked out!!! Luckily I had a nitrile glove in my purse (I work in a lab) so I put that on. Not so lucky, the ring went FAR.

Yeah there I was in a public restroom in a country where I don't speak the language elbow deep in a toilet.

At least I managed to fish out my rings.

No amount of hand sanitizer is helping. I still feel that my arm is filthy.

When I found DH and told him what happened he said he's surprised I didn't leave it so I could upgrade. I didn't know an upgrade was even a possibility. Darn it.

OMG, I'm so sorry! At least you got your rings back. On the other hand, I too, would feel the need to soak my arm in bleach.

Wow - that was an experience! However, it wouldn't eclipse having truly lost the rings - that has to be the worst!

Upgrades are always possible without losing the ring - that's the way to go!!

I know you probably are still grossed out and this experience might not have hit the "funny stage" yet, but thank you for sharing! I'm home sick also with my sick two year old, this made me laugh, a lot, I needed that.

I'm laughing about it.

Was gross, but it's over and I still have my rings.

Good work Chemgirl!!!
There's not tellin' what I might do to save my diamond rings, if I were in a similar bind.
Was it a regular -type toilet, or more like an outhouse?

Regular toilet. I told DH that if it was an outhouse the rings would be dead to me.

I have my limits.

I think we would all try to get it out if it happened to us.

chemgirl, you DO know that wasn't necessary, don't you?
You can buy diamonds that are already brown or yellow.

Sorry, someone had to say it.

Ugh Kenny!

I'm just glad you were able to get them back. You had a glove but I probably would have been glove-less and would have had
to go dump-ster diving.

How about doing a reset? Would that make it mind clean again?

It's fine. I'm going to bring them into work tomorrow and pick out some nice disinfectants and maybe give them a steam clean.

I'm more freaked out about my arm!

Oh my! That is terrifying. And disgusting! LOL

I'm glad you got them out. I would have done the same thing. And yea, I'd feel like my arm was filthy for a long time... :errrr:

Would a blingy bracelet make your arm more "mind clean"? :naughty:

That's gross but I would have done the same thing. I can't even imagine how many times you had to wash your arm before it felt clean again!

Chemgirl, that's awful! Thank goodness you were able to fish it out. Ugh! Somehow I keep getting flashbacks of the Trainspotting toilet scene from this thread!
