Hey guys, this might not be the correct place to post this but I've been having problems with my right hand promise ring. I find that I can't wear it for more than a couple days straight without my finger blistering and turning red. The ring is 10K white gold, and I do have other gold rings that don't cause this to happen.

Does anyone know why this happens and what I should do to correct it?

Would guess allergy to alloys - 10k is more alloy than gold. Gold itself is hypoallergenic, and if you wear other rings without trouble it's not that your fingers are just irritated by the presence of the ring..

You could have it re-shanked, or get it rhodium plated if you like white metal, you'll have to keep up with the plating though if it's allergies. Or for a super quick fix try some clear nail polish on the inside of the band :))

I just looked into it and I have a fashion ring that is also 10k white gold but I have no issues with that ring and with this one, the irritation only happens on the front of my finger. I'm not sure what it is but I still have my warranty papers so I guess I'll have it looked at tomorrow, it makes me so mad that I can't wear it.

Are you removing it when you wash your hands? Soap trapped under it can irritate your skin, and once it starts it's hard to stop it - definitely need to air it out. Try an OTC cortisone cream. It could be the shape of the inside of the shank and the size/tightness of the ring that could make this happen vs. other rings. Just a theory. A dermatologist would be good to consult if it won't go away. Good luck!

If you don't want to give up the ring you can try putting clear nail polish on the interior portion of the shank.

It does sound like either an allergy or a case of moisture being trapped underneath. I have sensitive skin and have had both problems in the past. For me, the most common source of irritation seems to be nickel. Apparently it's a very common allergy, and nickel is often used as an alloy in jewelry. Whatever it is, I hope your finger feels better! I know how uncomfortable it can be.

Hey all, thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I took it in to my jewelers and it's being resized to fit my index & middle finger instead now, just trying something different. Also, both people that looked at my finger and the ring said it was odd that the ring was making my finger red/scab up. It was sent off so I'll get it back in a week or so and it'll be Rhodium plated, so maybe that will fix it? If not, I might try the nail polish trick.

I have had that happen with two rings that had no ventilation so to speak. They were almost hollow bands underneath but curved down to look solid if that makes a darn bit of sense. My own sweat would get trapped under them and cause horrible redness, scabs and peeling. Could that be it?
