Is it safe to resize a ring from a 6.75, to a size 5?

The ring in question is a white gold filigree solitaire, no melee...the filigree stops at the shoulders and the rest of the band is plain gold around the back.

Should this be doable?

it probably will depend on the style of the ring. Is it a domed ring like you see in a lot of antiques? If so, even without diamonds they are more difficult to size. Best to ask a jeweler though. Can you post a picture?

Thanks for your reply!

It is not an exaggerated or very tall domed shape like a lot of antique settings are, but it does have a poofy filigree shoulder. I don''t have any pics yet, I just bought it today and won''t have it for another week or so. Perhaps the jeweler can resize it to a smaller size and then use sizing beads to make up any difference?

This is actually a ring for my future daughter in law. She loves the setting and it will be heartbreaking if it can''t be sized down enough to fit her!

We''ll have to keep our ring fingers crossed that it can be done!
