I recently had my ring resized from a 5 to a 4 3/4 and I didn''t notice any radical difference in the size. So...I went to a jeweler to have them verify the size - they said it was a 5. Is this quarter difference that small or has the ring not been resized?
I don't know if this helps, but the difference in circumference between a size 4.75 and 5 is very little (48.4 mm and 49.0 mm). As such, depending on the calibration of instruments, I'm sure that one place could call your ring a 4.75 while the other calls it a 5. But, I'm no expert. I just know that rings I've purchased from different jewelers tend to fit me slightly different even though they're all supposed to be the same size.
It's very thin. However when they placed it on the ring sizer thing it clearly showed as a 5 and not 4 3/4. Shouldn't I be able to tell the size difference on one of those things?
Have you taken it back to the place that did the resizing for you? I just wonder if their machine would show a 4.75, not 5. Just a thought. Either way, are you suggesting that your ring still does not fit? If that's the case they can definitely (and should) fix it for you at no charge.
Ok now I'm really confused. I just went to another jeweler and their sizing tool showed it as a 4 3/4. My guess is that this is such a small change that it's really hard to tell. Guess I will have to go down to a 4 1/2. I just hate to be without it for another 2 weeks.
Do not guess at what size is correct. Ring size mandrels are not totally standardized. What you should be doing is going back to the jeweler who should have measured your finger and then made the ring to fit it correctly. Give the jeweler another chance to measure your finger and make the ring fit. That's the jeweler's job, just like a cobbler used to make the shoe fit.
You should not go into a store and give them a shoe size or a finger size because of the looseness of standards in sizing. Have someone who knows the product measure you. The expert should know how to accomplish the job right the first time. Don't guess how much to alter the ring. Go to a person who makes that decision for you based on experience and expertise....
Same thing happened to my friend who had her ring sized down from a 5.5 to a 5.25. Same exact issue.
So to make up for it, they said that they didn't want to "weaken the integrity of the ring that was already resized"...(BS to me), so they installed sizing balls or beads to it. Two little fused beads on the iside of the ring make it easy to adjust without having to cut into it again.
I do remember though, it took her some getting used to, but now she doesn't notice it at all...
Either way, have them fix it to your ring size. They should have sized your finger with THEIR tools and used those for the proper sizing... good luck!
How do you find your correct ring size? I've only used those round ring sizer things and they dont come in 1/4 size. Is there a more accurate way to get your finger sized. I'm stuck in deciding between a 4.75 and a 4.5?!?
One thing to consider as well, is that the ring will fit differently when it is very hot and/or humid outside. (HOUSTON SUMMERS - YUCK!!). I see a substantial diffences in my rings in the summer time vs. cooler temps.
