hello. My father left me this ring that he said was my grandfathers. My grandmother doesn't remember ever seeing it since he worked with his hands didn't wear jewelry ever. I thought maybe it could have been his fathers. Is there any way to tell from the style when it was made? It's 10k gold and I'll assume a garnet.

Because the ring is 10k, I would say that the stone is probably synthetic ruby, not natural garnet.
Based on the buff-top style of the stone, the ring is maybe 1930s-40s.
A very sophisticated and good looking ring!

Totally agree on both counts - it's such a handsome ring!

Thank you so much. Those dates make sense. Would put him in his 20's when he might've worn a ring. It's definitely different with that smooth top on the stone but still facited underneath. As much as I want to resize it so I can wear it, i have big fingers and don't want to mess up the setting. it was really meant for my son and I'll save it for when he's old enough.
