Ring dilemma - ordered Sholdt through GOG

Hey all,

Looking for advice on what to do with this ring. I had initially ordered a Sholdt semi-bezel through GOG (they sent the diamond to Sholdt to be set). When I received the ring, I was very pleased with the overall look, except that in the profile view the diamond did not seem to by symmetrically centred, as you can see in the picture below.

I immediately notified Good Old Gold, they took the ring back, sent it to Sholdt to be fixed, then back to GOG and then back to me. See below for pictures of the ring after being adjusted. This seemed to be a slight improvement in the symmetry, but not as good as I had hoped. I just don't know if I am being too picky, or if this seems to be acceptable, I would really appreciate some opinions. I must say I am a bit disappointed with the lack of detail Sholdt had paid to the symmetry, especially after I had requested that it be fixed. I'm not sure what to do know, I keep having to postpone the proposal which is a bit frustrating, but I hope my gf will wear this ring for 60+ years so I don't want to settle for something that I am not satisfied with. I understand that these are handmade, so maybe I'm being too picky, but if I am paying for a symmetrical setting, I expect a symmetrical setting.
I will say that despite this dilemma, GOG has been awesome throughout the whole process and I would still go back to them in a heartbeat.

Ideas?

No, you`re not being picky. I can see very clearly that it`s not symmetrical and it would drive me bonkers. Not sure why they are having a hard time with fixing it but I would send it back again.

Sorry this is happening to you. It`s a gorgeous setting but because the profile is the way that it is, the stone definitely needs to be perfectly placed.

Best of luck.

Cachette :))

I agree with Cachette, you are not being picky. From the pictures it is obvious that it is off center.

I hope they get it fixed for you. Your ring will be gorgeous! I can't wait to see it when it is complete. :lickout:

You are definitely not being picky and I agree that you should send it back to be fixed. Sorry you have to keep postponing your proposal - that must be very frustrating! I hope you get it all sorted very soon!

It looks off to me too. For the record, I LOVE that setting!!!

i love the sholdt semibezel, i'm sorry to hear you are having such issues. i find the asymmetry pretty obvious, even in the second go-round. considering the profile is so simple and sleek, and a major part of what makes this design, it seems to me that the diamond should be seated perfectly, and i personally wouldn't be happy at all until it is.

good luck, i hope it gets fixed without too much more hassle!

Just wanna say the setting is gorgeous and see if you can let them do a final redo of the placement symmetry.
You could propose first then make the neccessary adjustment after the proposal

It would bug me too. Frankly, for me, after two attempts, I would probably find another setting.

I'm with others, it needs to go back again. That would drive me nuts.

Yea that would still not be ok to me. It needs to be remade because tweaking it is not likely to fix it. The seats are probably off and they are probably just trying to work with what they have made already.

You're not being picky, that would drive me nutso. This is a semi-bezel, one of the main features of the ring is the side profile, of course it should be symmetrical! You're paying enough for this, I would send it back until they made it right.

You are being reasonable. It is crooked, and would really bother me, especially since the ring wearer has to look at the profile all the time.

I agree with the poster above that Sholdt should fix this setting, or replace it with a similar one that is symmetrical. I am surprised that they did such a poor job, considering it's Sholdt.

Another ditto. Asymmetries in that particular setting are even worse, given that the setting is all about the clean, smooth lines - it's such a simple piece, those clean lines are the focus!

Hey thanks for the advice everyone, arrangements are being made to have it back in the mail tomorrow. Will let you know how it turns out!

Hi looking,

When I saw this I inquired with my staff about it and saw the pix of the after shots. Definitely much better but yes, not perfect. Please send it back and let us take care of it. We stand behind your satisfaction 110% and will work with Sholdt till it is. This is a first we've experienced with them and thankfully this is not common place with Sholdt.

All the best,
Jonathan

I'm sorry you're going through this. I think you're right to send it back again.

I actually have an unrelated question to ask. I've been looking at this setting, but I haven't seen many photos of it (other than the Sholdt website). Can you tell me what ct. size your diamond is? I've trying to figure out what the diamond I was planning on would like in that setting.

Thanks!

Dee

Hi Looking - did Sholdt reset your stone in the mounting to your satisfaction?

Hey MissGotRocks the ring is with them now so here's to hoping they do a good job fixing the symmetry.

hoping for the best- please put after pics when you get it back!

I hope that they reset the stone to your liking, you are right to want it perfect. I look forward to your pictures!
