Ring conversion with threaded interior

I am curious what the upper portion of this Victorian ring conversion may have been originally-any ideas? The interior is threaded. Were the threads added later or original-any guesses?

Can you post pics of all angles, not just close-ups?
I cant quite tell exactly where the threads are.

My guess is that it was part of a set, for a brooch or ring.

The section where the threads are looks larger than normal, because you normally see attachments more like this:

It could have been a convertible jewel that could be worn in different ways--for example, as a brooch, hatpin, hairpin, or pendant.
